Eddie might be injured too, he just said "I can't get up, my back" and had to get help getting to his feet.

Re: AEW Dynamite - June 29, 2022 [BLOOD & GUTS]

I thought Blood and Guts II was better than I, but didn't quite reach Anarchy in the Arena levels of greatness. Claudio and Sammy had a bit of a clunky start, but from Garcia entering to Santana entering there was a real good 15-20 minutes of wargames style action. Mox in particular brought big energy to the match be it making multiple members of the JAS bleed, or taking the brunt of the Jericho heat segment in the tacks. Santana's injury probably messed up a few planned spots but they managed to recover well I thought. Very clever finish with Claudio gaining the victory so that no-one turns (and with Punk and Bryan out, they shouldn't turn anyone, ride the Claudio babyface reactions for a bit), but there's a subtle thread they can go after in the future for Eddie and Claudio to feud. The big problem this match has is it's on TV not PPV, so they have to peak things around the commercial breaks, for example it felt like there was a tonne of stalling once Jericho and Kingston got onto the roof, then as soon as they come back from break, Claudio has magically recovered from nowhere to race to the finish. I feel like a broken record, but ever since NXT brought back wargames, the matches always start to overstay their welcome once everyone's in the ring and they go 10 minutes longer than they need to.

I think the ship sailed on Jane being OC's theme a year ago. I don't think there's much point changing it to his indie theme now that everyone's gotten used to Pixies.

The mileage on Blood and Guts is going to vary depending on how much you care for a) the people involved and b) wrestling as a spectacle. Personally, I though the match was alright, but as you say, the stalling for commercials really hurt it in parts. I didn't care for the opening botch fest between Claudio and Sammy, but once Weyland Utani got involved things picked up for me. I don't see the MeGA StAr in him that others seem to, but he at least helped bring things back to some semblance of normalcy, so that's a plus on him.

I actually think I liked the opening match more, as Cassidy is finally growing on me after years of not liking the guy's schtick, and Lambert/Page are always awesome.

Two relatively minor gripes, though, because of course I have to have some. First off, they really need to stop laying it on so thick that Moxley gives of 'tHe StONe CoLd" vibes. Why can't he just be Jon Moxley, badass, rather than be compared to another, more famous badass that has nothing to do with AEW? That's the same kind of bush league shit that TNA got chastised for numerous times when they first started, and it's very distracting at times. Second, for all the complaining about WWE piping in crowd noise, the dude on the fader at last night's show was way out of his depth. There were numerous points during the opening match where the crowd was at near Rock/Hogan levels.

I actually preferred the first Blood & Guts myself, and found it to be a near five star match until the crash pad ending that kind of sullied it for me. This one was solid but I didn't feel it was as engaging to me and the stalling during the commercial was pretty egregious. Probably didn't help that it was so soon after Anarchy in the Arena, which was already violent to an extent that no matter what they did in Blood & Guts, I don't think it would have been possible to make it feel like this was some next level carnage.

Re: AEW Dynamite - June 29, 2022 [BLOOD & GUTS]

I enjoyed last year’s match thoroughly but I wasn't fond of this year's match. Call me old fashioned but I tend to like cage matches where the biggest weapon is the cage. Having tacks, tables and other things devalues the overall gimmick. It wasn't disappointing because of that though. There was a lot of run time where there wasn’t anything interesting taking place. Isolated moments were great, like Angelo Parker coming in, seeing that he's up against Claudio, Moxley and Yuta and running for the hills. Plus him hanging upside down all bloody. I thought the stuff between Kingston and Claudio were a nice added touch to the match. But the whole experience lacked. I can do without everyone breaking out of the cage to go to the roof. Again, that defeats the points of the cage. Decent enough but it wasn't a great match. Not even best cage match of the week.

Re: AEW Dynamite - June 29, 2022 [BLOOD & GUTS]

I don't really like WarGames that much, never really have, but I managed to be reasonably entertained by both B&G matches. Despite all my usual problems with the conceit it was a decently fun brawl with a couple of good spots. All that really matters to me is that the ending was much more interesting and obviously better delivered than last year's. Excited to see what happens from here. Kingston not getting a decisive win makes me think we might be headed to one more Jericho and Eddie showdown but hopefully it's just a one on one and we can get away from the big teamfights, and hopefully it happens fast because the feud has pretty much run its course.

"Jane" is a really great song but I dunno if it's a better fit for Orange than his last tune. I'm sure I'll acclimate, but feels like pandering to his indie days just for the sake of doing it. Unless Orange himself specifically wanted it, I don't really see the point. Minor griping aside it's still a banger and Orange still rules as he and Page reminded us in a good opener. Jade had a nice looking squash, hopefully we're getting close to actually getting her in the ring with Athena and/or Statlander, and I also hope the latter is the one to finally take that belt off of her. Oh and Dark Luchasaurus is cool.

Re: AEW Dynamite - June 29, 2022 [BLOOD & GUTS]

I agree with the overall sentiment of enjoying BNG, but it definitely went about ten minutes too long, with some blatant time killing around ads at the end. Sucks for Santana, hope he's okay.

Enjoyed Orange/Ethan. This time I'm gonna take the opposing view and say I enjoy Jane as a theme more than The Pixies. Nice to see Chuck back on TV too, wondering where he went.

The Acclaimed/Ass Boys split begins! Daddy Ass is totally turning on The Acclaimed and I get my sweet, sweet face turn.

Stokely is still a treasure. Wonder if they'll go with the triple threat to get the belt off Jade or put Athena/Kris against each other for the show?

More or less agree with Ed. I really enjoyed B&G, much more than the first one, and more than any of the WWE WarGames, but it was still closer to those matches than the classics. Still thought there was a lot of positives and overall loved the finish. Eddie Kingston is probably going to be my Wrestler Of The Year at this rate, what a run he is having.

That's the first Million+ viewership figure thagt Dynamite has gotten since March 23rd. So that shows that not only was the match something that plenty wanted to see, the PPV was a big success for gaining people's interest in the follow-up, on top of the figures of the PPV itself.

Re: AEW Dynamite - June 29, 2022 [BLOOD & GUTS]

Really feel like BNG would have been different without the injury to Santana. Feels like the match was secondary to getting the closing pose on top of the cage which was awesome. Where was the fireball after all that goofy wizard stuff? I don't know but I do agree the rating has to put this over as a success despite it's flaws.

Jane is a significant downgrade to the Pixies and it doesn't even serve a purpose now so late. These things are subjective but I just hope it was worth it for Khan to get so mad about it getting late.

I was there and had a blast

Man wheeler climbing down the cage after the match and he had all the tacks in his back

Danhausen/Toni storm/orange Cassidy/thunder Rosa/negative went around after the show and met with fans that were on the floor
