    Re: General Football Discussion

Might as well have a ran now as I definitely won't feel like bothering anytime soon otherwise. completely predictable performance from Arsenal. I'm not quite "Arteta out" but my god does he get a lot wrong. Have zero faith in him progressing us as a club or the players as individuals.

We are awful in this match and didn't deserve to win. We had two shots on goal - a penalty and a 85th minute shot by Auba. Arteta complete Pep'd himself here. Our back four was 3 center backs and a midfielder. We had no center forward. We moved into this passive U shape whenever we had the ball, made no runs, and didn't penetrate for shit. Bunch of tame shots from outside the box.

Arteta won't sub early. which fucked us here, because Ceballos was awful in the first half, got a dumb yellow, and started out the 2nd half with a dumb foul. So a second yellow was pretty much inevitable. And it happened on a foul he really couldn't avoid. But Arteta chose to leave him on there.

The ref was piss poor. First Arsenal penalty was rightly overturned, actual Arsneal penalty was dicey at best to award, 2nd yellow to both Ceballos and Capoue was soft as fuck. Yellow to Auba for diving out of the way was stupid. And despite Capoue being on the floor for at least 5 minutes, the added time in the 2nd half was... five minutes.

I can't wait for the Arteta post match where he says that we played exactly how he wanted us to and "dominated the xG" but were "undone by VAR" or some other asinine nonsense.

Didn't watch, but when I saw Caballos got a red I just chucked a wee bit cause I've been shitting on him for a year & a half we'll lose at home or get a 0-0 draw and he'll still be here next season so ultimately it doesn't matter

We are awful at home so we will probably get pumped by 4 or 5 goals and it won't matter because Arteta has as much power at the club as Wenger had and our owners absolutely do not fucking care anyway.

Looks we had slightly better xG than Villarreal, so I'm sure that to Arteta, we actually DID win.

Ceballos has looked so poor at times. And that red was just so obviously coming. So painfully obvious.

The SPFL are investigating a player (Jonny Tiffoney) for using a mental health slur aimed at a fellow player (David Cox) who has tried to kill himself in the past. He has been open about this hence why it was used against him. Cox retired from football at half time due to the slur being used against him (he alleges this is constantly done in games and he is fed up of it).

Pretty shite to hear about something like this and think an investigation is the right thing to do. Tiffoney isnt allowed to train or play either.

Wont get a ton of spotlight due to it being lower leagues but mental health matters should probably be taken a bit more seriously in sports.

    So, eh, La Liga?

what a weekend next weekend in Spain. Atletico/Barca and Real/Sevilla. All four teams still realistically have a chance of winning the league. Slip ups every week, the last few weeks of La Liga have been nuts and I actually fancy Barca.

Could be a crazy finish. its already pretty ridiculous.

My preference would be Atletico but I don't really have much faith in them at this point, given how they were running away with it and basically bottled it. Sevilla would be pretty awesome. Both Real and Barca have that "champions pedigree" and it will probably be one of them , but that will just feel disappointing IMO.

Yknow what? Fuckin good on Unai. Aye, he wasnt good for us and am no gonna turn around and say we should never have sacked him, but it's clear Emery is our David Moyes, where he was set up to fail from the beginning. After all the shit the dickhead section of our support did to him, like getting him cancelled from that talk he was meant to have, the personal attacks and making him a scapegoat for the boards failings, I hope he wins because we deserve to have it rubbed in our faces

On the bright side, I can finally just forget about us for the rest of the season and focus on willing St Mirren to the Scottish Cup

    Re: General Football Discussion

Well, not too impressed by the second half performance when our defense decided to take their mind to the final and were all over the place. Thank God for De Gea otherwise we may well have lost that tie. Can't believe that people are quesitoning whether De Gea will start the final. Of course he will. what sort of quesiton is that? He showed his class last night and why he really is still one of the best keepers in the world when on form. There's no question that he will and should start the final, and there will be serious quesitons asked in the summer as to who will be our #1 keeper next season.

St Cavani does the business again, 4 goals over the 2 legs speaks volumes for the class he still has. We simply must do everything we can so keep hi for another year.

Donny VDB had a poor game I thought last night. It was a chance for him to show what he can do but he didn't really turn up or give any Ole any reason to quesiton whether he should be challenging Fernandes, Pogpa, Mctominay, Fred in the pecking order. I wrote off this season for him a while ago as I'm putting it down to first season syndrome, I think it will be next season that he will need to really show what he can do, and I'm sure he will.

Very happy for Ole that we're in the final, he deserves it. Villareal won't be a straightforward game, but we are the favorites. We need to make sure we play like it. Professionally and ruthlessly going forward.
If we can win the cup and secure 2nd place in the league then I'll take that as a great season for us, and a good platform to build upon for next season.

I don't even understand why it's even a debate. De Gea has done really well this season and when Henderson has came in he's been average. Show some loyalty to your longest serving player ffs typical English media tryin to start shit that shouldn't be a question

Agreed. Fair enough, Henderson came in and did ok for a handfull of games when De Gea was 'allowed the time off' to witness the birth of his child. But most of those games were against bang average Premier League teams. He's had his hairy moments too. De Gea's come back and they've now seemingly swapped roles with Henderson being #1 in the League and De Gea being the 'cup keeper'.

Henderson is a very good goalkeeper, no doubt, but I do think he's overrated personally. I agree that De Gea has reacted very well this season to having Henderson at the club as competition. To me, he should absolutely still be our #1 keeper though. If that means that Henderson leaves, then so be it. I honestly won't be sad, since we're being left with an amazing goalkeeper who still has plenty of years left in the tank ahead of him.

    Re: General Football Discussion

No point to a rant or trying to organize my frustration into words. The endless cycle of disappointment and decline continues. Arteta is a symptom of that and problematic but he's hardly the source.

Congrats to Emery and Villarreal. Can't BELIEVE he missed the chance to toss a "good ebening" in there.
