Disregarding time & investment, I do enjoy writing long form shows. Reading wise? Even if I had an infinite amount of time, I probably wouldnt want to read full length shows (though I'm down for reading all of the dialogue if its not too monologue-ish). Reading matches just does not come close to appealing to me. I just want the meat of the story of said match/

    Re: The BTB Discussion Thread

On the topic of the long matches and fully written- I've just fully written a MITB ladder match

I like the shorter format and keeping the matches simple and to the point with just doing the ending or finish of the match but in the cases of the gimmick matches like Royal Rumble, MITB or even something like 2 out of 3 falls they're very hard to keep short and still make it worthwhile or interesting while getting in all the spots you want to include. Anything else then something lengthy seems like you're selling the match short I find so is what it is in some cases.

so many projects I wanna do, but dunno which one to focus one. I’m usually doing fantasy based promotions but part of me after going through old ECW and WCW shows on the network makes me wanna do that. guess it’s not really a bad problem to have. Although Natural’s THRIVE BTB has gotten me thinking of doing something in that vein...

how do you guys decide what BTB to do if you have a lot of ideas?

Try writing a show or a few segments for each and see what feels best whilst you’re writing it and what you think will give you the most enjoyment going forward.

Anyone got any tips on writing a Last Man Standing match? I've got one more match to write for BFG and my brain has just blocked

Chaddes, my go-to suggestion when it comes to writing any kinda match is to honestly just watch a few to see how things are laid out. Then maybe go dig in and see if there's a LMS match around the forum and see how they're laid out. I'm sure Wolfy has something... he's written so much. But yeah, I'd hazard that you should watch a couple

100% agree with this. Before I started my thread, I was thinking of doing WCW 1999. Wrote maybe a quarter of one Nitro and it felt off, so I binned it. Tried a TNA one from their birth in 2002, and the first show again didn't feel right. So I tried a Raw in 2003 and it just came naturally. Told me I had more to work with than just a couple of random ideas of what might be fun, and I've stuck with it for over a year now.

Yeah, I agree with this as well. My favourite Last Man Standing match is Jericho/HHH from Last Man Standing. Told a great story. The challenge of that match type is that the storytelling isn't the same as your usual matches, because the counts of ten can slow the pace and become monotonous. So it's about how you work with the counts to tell a story that don't slow it down.

Started watching a few, found a kind of hidden gem. Survivor Series 2005, Triple H vs Ric Flair, just a bloodbath

Something else to consider as inspiration is I Quit Match's. Obviously there are some different circumstances but they also involve the same level of extreme and whatnot.

Just please don't duct tape people down or use a tape recorder for the win like in real life.

Not gonna lie, I always get a chuckle from the duct tape in LMS matches

Using duct tape in an I Quit Match is where the money is at.

Why do that when you can bring a gun to a No DQ match!?

Just to add to the subject of Last Man Standing matches, Randy Orton vs. Triple H at No Mercy 2007 is underrated IMO.

I’m sure Wolf Beast or Sykotic or any other guy with a long standing BTB has one in there. Battle Royals are hard for me personally as I’ve only attempted one with my WWF 91 project, as there is a lot of “forearm, kick, forearm, attempt elimination.”

For one to watch, my personal favorite is the Battle Royal from Smackdown in January 2006. Kurt Angle wins the WHC. Just a very creativley booked match in my opinion.
