Theres a certain thing I like to call "youtube"; but If you want to listen to proper metal, download yourself some Metallica, Iron Maiden,Slayer, Slipknot,Trivium, Megadeth, Machinehead etc.

And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
    When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
    and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"

Wow, Dr. Pr0xy with the epic fail.

Did you miss the part where Kaji said "Bands I haven't heard of" I'm guessing he may be somewhat new to the genre, but I'm almost absolutely certain everyone and their mother has heard of those bands. Reading comprehension classes are in order, I do believe.

As for the OP, the only real nu metal I listen to is (hed) PE, but anything after the Blackout EP from them is pretty mehtastic.

It would be helpful to know a bit about what you do know and listen to. I've been getting into the likes of Killswitch Engage and In Flames lately myself.

I know, agree'd with big papa, are you just looking into getting into metal, or are you a metal head who wants to listen to new bands?

Re: Heavy Metal and Nu Metal.

lulz @ "some good Nu-Metal". That's like an oxymoron.

Ill Niño and 40 Below Summer are the only Nu-Metal I listen to. The previously mentioned (həd) p.e. is decent, I suppose (I hate the name though).

Gothic Metal: idk, Darkwell? Epica? Xandria? Every other Gothic Metal band I can think of is already fairly well-known.

And I've got no idea what you mean by heavy metal. That classification is something different for pretty much everyone.

I listen to Mushroomhead. Their best songs are Too Much Nothing, Sun Doesn't Rise, 43, Solitaire Unraveling, and Almost Gone. I'm gonna download some songs on Abyss's.

Just reminding everyone what this thread's prompt actually was. People are listing some of the most popular metal bands around.

Uncrowned is actually one of my favorite underground bands.

Underoath is pretty decent as well.

I can't tell if you're mocking yourself there as you were actually the person who listed those bands originally? lol

Tom listed quite a variety of bands and I doubt the original poster has heard of all of those, particularly if he's trying to become more familiar with metal genres.

Re: Heavy Metal and Nu Metal.

No I was referring to assasins constant seriousness. I was merely refering to the best metal bands as I dont really listen to new stuff so Assasin goes all serious on everything.

Opeth? In Flames? Children of Bodom? DREAM THEATER!?!?

    cmon

I wasn't suggesting that all of the bands listed were well-known, but several of them are, and again, the whole premise of this thread is for more obscure bands. You cannot convince me that Opeth or Dream Theater meet that description.
