MK Dons, you say? I like to rename them to Wimbledon Original FC just to be a little bit more dickish…

in my experience Austin is generally the most hated because of Precourt, followed by LAFC because of the media attention, then Seattle because of their success, then Atlanta.

In my typical Viborg save, doing many of the things I've done over the years, and as always in FM, I'm a bit of a cup specialist, and we make the Danish Cup Final against our primary rivals in FCM, we've got a good record against them since getting promoted, but they are still the more talented team. I can't say I expected the game to be like this though.

    Spoiler:

An 87th minute go ahead, a 90+1 tie, a 90+6 winner in an absolute slugfest.

My heart is pounding, and man did I miss this feeling after playing what felt like many meaningless matches in my previous saves. Love this game.

Does anybody have the mobile version? If so is it worth getting? I haven’t played FM for a while now, and I’m starting to get the itch to play again, but the full version looks like it’d be overwhelming for a newcomer/someone who hasn’t played for years. Plus the missus would probably kick me out if I got the full version! Is it worth a dabble for someone looking to ease themselves back into the series?

That's awesome, Mike. Saw you post about it on Twitter. Love that the game still has THOSE moments for us, even after so long.

I haven't toyed with the mobile version in recent years, Gilo. It used to be a slimmed down version of the full game - same match engine essentially, but a lot of the elements were removed (can't hire/fire most staff, etc) and limited DB. If its still the same, it was always a good option for a streamlined experience. Especially if the full fat is or is likely to be overwhelming.

didn't manage much FM time last night. I did decide to switch the passing DM role from a Regista to a DLP. I've toyed with it a few times as Regista literally says it more suited to a high-pressing, passing system like Tiki Taka. We aren't high press. With the tactical changes, we are a bit more possession-based. The short season in Argentina is done and we are moving into the league cup nonsense.

    Re: Football Manager 21

Got more offers from New York City FC for my 18 year old striker Oviedo. they went up 14.75M. Unstructured - just straight-up. But he isn't interested in going to the MLS so I figured I would hang onto him. I should be able to get that from a European club, if not more. And he will score plenty of goals in the meantime.

He's a bit of a weird player. I mean, he doesn't look immediately like a player who should score a ton of goals, but he does. He's decent physically - everything is 11-13, except 15 Pace and 17 Acceleration, but his Jumping Reach is low - weird since he's 5'10", so not exactly short. He has decent Finishing (14 or 15), good Dribbling (17) and Heading (16). Reasonably technical and no overt weaknesses in that regard. Mentals are a bit all over the place - really high Anticipation (16, I think) but stuff like Off the Ball, Work Rate, and Teamwork are all solid (again, 11-13). Decisions are up to 9 - started at like 4. His only PPM is Likes to Break Offside Trap. What I like about him is that he scores all kinds of goals. Some nice counter goals where he uses that quickness and even though his finishing isn't top notch, he often finishes the 1 on 1. Seen him steal it from defenders with a press, taps ins, volleys, long shots....

Anyway, the exciting development last night was him, my young GK, and another player got called up to the U20 Argentina squad. As one might imagine, the Argnetine NT is almost all players playing outside of Argentina, and the youth squads aren't too much different. Another player got called up to the U19 NT. One got called up to the Italy U19 squad due to his second nationality, which I didn't even realize he had. The only national team regular I have is Yuriel Celi, who is a constant for Peru but he doesn't perform quite as well for them.

Through March of 2022, which is kinda exciting. I have a Bolivian newgen and a Chilean defender from Mexico coming in during the summer window, and a 5-star Ecuadorian newgen winger in December. The Bolivian and Ecuadorian are both tiny, which is always amusing to watch.

the board upgraded the training and youth facilities, but not the youth recruitment. Just as the upgrades were finished, I asked again about the youth recruitment and they initially said no "because recent results have been extremely disappointing". I guess a long string of wins with a few draws is a disappointing run for us now? But they agreed when I pushed. I tried asking again for next step of training and youth facilities when I could, and got the same response, but they gave in on the youth facilities. I'm happy for any upgrades. We aren't low, but we also aren't really standout. And I'd like to be as having our youth players come through is even better than stealing them. Unlike Brazil, I don't get that many bargains in Argentina.

I know alot more goes into scoring goals than finishing in FM, but in my last save, my top goalscorer 3 years running had a finishing of 7, while my dude out here with 15 finishing never bagged more than 10.

    Re: Football Manager 21

Crew fans hate Austin because of Precourt and there's general discontent for Austin from MLS fans, but that's died down a lot, especially with the Crew both getting great owners and winning MLS Cup. Atlanta though gets a lot of hate because they hands down have the most entitled, snobby fan base. Still probably not the worst fans though because Orlando exists.

Loaded up the new database and started a January game with Dortmund because they were midtable and I think 8 points back of Top 4 spots. They started the season off with something crazy like no wins in their first 9 matches too. I took over after 14 games played in the league, and the side on the up having won I think their last 3 in the league, but Haaland only scoring 5 in his first 14. Boy did things change really quick though. After starting off with a draw at Leipzig, wins and Haaland goals just kept coming. Had an 8 match league winning streak from there. Only lost 2 league matches - away to Bayern after a red card, and to Stuttgart after over rotating - and irritatingly lost in the SF of cup to already relegated Mainz to set up a very winnable final against Hoffenheim.

The real success story though: Champions League. Porto in the R16 was a 2-2 draw at Porto and then a 3-1 home win, with Haaland scoring 4 of the 5 goals (after only 1 penalty in the group stage). PSG in the QF was a 1-1 home draw and then a surprising 1-0 away win (surprisingly no Haaland goals), to set up City in the SF. First match was away and set up for a 0-0 draw with City just edging me out. Then Youssoufa Moukoko getting his debut goal in 90+2 and Haaland stunning them in 90+6 for a 2-0 road win. Can got sent off in the return leg after an hour, but City created dick and we drew 0-0. Liverpool in the finals. Haaland show. Put us up 2-1 at HT with a goal right before HT, then 20 seconds into the second half for a 3-1 lead. Salah scored in the final 20 to make it interesting, but we held on for a shock 3-2 win and the Champions League.

Haaland is amazing, obviously. 30 goals in 34 league appearances - 25 in 20 for me - 9 Champions League goals - 8 in 7 for me - and 44 goals overall. Pretty much played the whole second half of the season without Reus or Hummels which probably helped. Here's hoping I can get one more season with Haaland and Sancho before having to sell, especially since Bayern walked the league by 21 points and I'd like to challenge them this time around.

Oh, very very much. Same player, I don't think his Finishing went up above 11 in the previous save (his personality was nowhere as strong) and he still scored loads. I'm starting to realize how much those top few Mental attributers influence things. A brave player with good anticipation who makes good decisions.... that can compensate for some faults elsewhere.

And Dortmund are definitely more appealing than ever, Zoom. Really curious how Moukoko develops for you. He legit looks one of the craziest wonderkids they've ever had in FM.

    Re: Football Manager 21

Welp, MLS rules really are as complicated as everyone says I probably could get used to it if I stuck to it, so I kept the save file there, but I don't have the patience to wrap my head around aw this designated spending and draft pick pish haha

Decided to start in Canada instead, because I've never actually played that league before and thought it'd be cool to start in a very young league. Went with York9 and in the Island Games, looks like a mini season with everyone playing each other once, then the top 4 get separated into a champions table where whoever finishes 1st & 2nd compete in the final.

SO many of my best players are refusing to even negotiate, I'm awright with that but because they don't fit my style of play, other than my RW, Gabriel Vasconcelos, proper baller in this league, but is leaving on a free. My best CB is retiring too, Luca Gasparotto, played in the Scottish lower leagues with Rangers, Falkirk, Airdrie & Greenock (prick), he's retiring at 25. At first I thought it was a glitch and FM got the age wrong, but it's real and there's no reason why from what I've seen

Started off shit, opening 2 games I got smashed by Atletico Ottawa & Pacific, both times Vasconcelos and a 16 year old I started because my other RW got injured last minute, Lowell Wright, scored 2 goals in the last 10 minutes in the Atletico game and a last minute equalizer against Pacific, and with my other strikers not playing well, he became my starting striker. After that though we went on a great wee run. Won our next 5 games with 5 clean sheets, only one of them I had more that 40% possession. Weirdly, my highest scoring win, 4-0 against Edmonton, I actually had the least amount of possession so far with 34%, scored all my goals in the 20-30 minute mark.

Topped the group to get the next phase, thought I'd try one more time to make a 3 at the back system work.

By the 50th minute I was 4-1 down.

Changed back to a 4-2-4 and scored 3 to pull it back, but I've learned my lesson:

    fuck 3 at the back.

Won my last 2 games to get to the final against Forge, who are York9's rivals apparently, and both times I played them even though I won they totally dominated the game so I was okay with losing considering I had just joined and hadn't lost at all. Went on to very comfortably win 2-0 to win the league unbeaten, but for some reason the board are disappointed that I didn't challenge for the Island games? Weird, but I won and I've got a shitload of signings I need to do so we'll see how it goes
