Ex Machina is an awesome movie. Sad I waited so long to see it but no regrets. Loved the ending.

Django Unchained is still my most memorable theater experience cuz it was the first Quentin Tarantino movie I'd watched, I still wasn't super into movies at the time, and most of it was just constant "wtf" for me. I watched the first Hobbit afterwards and it might have been the dullest shit I'd ever watched in my life coming after Django. I did not expect to make it this high but I seriously considered it on my list. Happy to see it at #6 tbh.

Bollocks. I see my error, apologies. It's easily correctable so I'll have to do it later once I'm off work.

The general jist though will be Ex Machina drops out the top 10 and is replaced by everyone's favourite Nolan blockbuster

Django is a great movie up until the last 30 minutes when Tarrantino just can't help himself. That final part of the film ruined it for me and I have no desire to watch it again.

Tarantino’s cameo with that Australian accent is the worst thing he’s ever done. And he once defended Polanski.

Actually I really like Django and even the ridiculousness of things like the slapsticky way that woman gets blown away at the end. It’s an expression of how cringeworthy, detrimental, distracting, mood-killing and poorly acted I find his short appearance that it hurts my opinion of the film enough to not vote it.

Love Ex Machina - great film and it would probably have been my #11. Shame it isn't making the top ten.

Didn't like Django either, but then again Tarantino films I like begins and ends with Inglorious Bastards.

Ex Machina rocks. Where's Fuji with the gif?

Overall I'm a Tarantino fan, but since Django my opinion on him has lowered a bit with each film.

Re: WC’s Favourite Films of the 2010’s!

The third act of Django is great. Tarantino is in it for about three minutes and is barely a factor in the movie and larger story as a whole, so his appearance ruining the film is a viewpoint I find it hard to agree with, personally.

The performances of Waltz, Foxx, Jackson and Di Caprio are all some of the best performances I’ve seen from any of them. It’s crazy to think that Jackson played Fury in Avengers and Stephen here in the same year, as they are completely contrasting characters.

The third act is camp, fun and cathartic. We see Django go through all of that shit for almost two hours and then get to see everyone responsible for fucking him over getting picked off one by one.

I’m saying all of this and not mentioning the soundtrack, score and cinematography either. As well as a compelling and easy to root for story, it is also a very good looking film and the music is on point throughout. It’s my favourite Tarantino film and the one that made me make a point of going back and watching most of his other works.

Love Get Out and Django, both excellent films. Ex Machina and Inception almost made my list but were last minute cuts.

Okay, previous error corrected, Inception and Ex Machina swap places.

Top 5 time. Sorta, number 4 is a two way tie. One I'm over the moon to see this high, the other should generate some debate....
    Spoiler:

    T4th. Your Name (2016)
    25 Points – [Postman Dave (2), Todd Chavez (3), RainShaker (3)]

    T4th. Joker (2019)
    25 Points – [Wolf Beast (2), Shock (3), Marketh (3)]

When it's 3 minutes of a scene that's the turning point to take us into the 3rd act and the hero getting his revenge, it's much harder for me to ignore the jarring presence of the director showing up with a cringey performance. By comparison, his other cameo as the voice of a Klan member during a much earlier comic relief scene was perfect.

If there's gonna be a Joker debate, I'll get it out the way early and acknowledge that of course it wouldn't exist without Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. That never hurt my enjoyment because I think their influence on it is quite surface level and Joker explores the same themes in very different ways - some less effectively than those films, some perhaps more. I definitely have a more emotional response to Joker than King of Comedy. Taxi Driver is its own entity and one of my favourite films ever that I don't really want to compare to much else, it's way less plot-driven than Joker, and I don't mean that as a mark against Joker, because I was engaged with that story and it kept me guessing.

It's not the Tarrantino cameo that annoys me. It's the over the top action sequence. It's a jarring change of tone to the rest of the film.

Joker is great. Never understood some of the criticisms. It is similar to Taxi Driver, but lots of films are similar to their predecessors. As a character driven film, Joker is top tier.

I've found a lot of the criticisms of Joker weird too. Mostly from people who don't understand the social aspects of it.

Expected Jon to back me on Your Name, but seeing it on Shake's list got me all sorts of excited. A must watch, even if like me you need the dub to do so.

Re: WC’s Favourite Films of the 2010’s!

Your Name is one of my all time favorite movies. Makoto Shinkai is a stud. Movie is gorgeous, top tier soundtrack I still listen to today, great voice acting, story is very endearing, characters are all likeable. Honestly, I dont think I have any real criticism for it. It lives up to the hype. It's funny to think Shinkai was still dissatisfied with it cuz I can't think of anything that would need to be added or changed. I wonder if he actually somehow could've improved it. Ultimately pretty happy with how high this is since it's obviously limited in it's appeal because it's foreign and animated and most people probably haven't checked it out.

As for Joker, it's easily one of the worst movies I've watched, but I'm sure it was probably just too complicated for me to get the social aspects
