No one really stands out as #1 but if I had to throw out a few names that I've got down for my WDKW100, Daniel Makabe (Good matches against Kevin Ku and other indie guys), Tetsuya Endo (the best wrestler on the DDT C-Shows & Dojo show), Will Ospreay (Hiromu and ZSJ matches), Kazuchika Okada (WK Matches) and Kota Ibushi (WK Matches) are the first people I noted down.

I've never been a big fan in the past but Kenny Omega stands out to me so far. He's in my favourite match of the year, the tag match against the Bucks was great, and generally he's been delivering every time I've seen him.

Re: 2020 Wrestler of the Year Ongoing Discussion

I'm not doing WDKW100 this year, it forces me to watch too much mediocre modern day wrestling so I can never get to old stuff.

I can't believe I'm saying this but my working #1 at the moment is Kenny Omega. He has my MOTY with the Young Bucks match, and then the PAC Ironman match which would probably be a top 5 match also. Then there's the TV matches he has which are usually good at a minimum like the SCU title change on the boat or the recent match with Trent last week. For me he's stepped up this year and has toned down his bad habits.

For that matter, PAC wouldn't be too far off either with the ironman match, and then the fantastic Orange Cassidy debut match, among some fun death triangle matches.

The lucha boys on Raw are about as reliable as it gets for TV wrestlers also but they're missing the high end stuff.

I definitely think Omega has to be considered a top choice at this point. It's a crazy year but he came out extremely strong early before everything changed.

In Japan it's been a real mishmashed year. Susumu in AJPW deserves credit for a great run in what was a bone dry division. I think Sugiura also has to be in there. His performance in his home promotion and especially the Zero1 tag was insanely good. Keep your eye on Fuminori Abe.

Surprised I'm saying this, but Cody was one of the first people that came to my head. I don't think he's had a bad match and has often (Jericho aside) been the highlight of AEW.

Looking out for the likes of Andrade, Buddy and Black on Raw the rest of this year. Had some good matches with different opponents.

I would go with Omega so far. He has two matches in my top 5 list currently and a couple of good matches recently with Trent and Sammy. Can’t think of anyone else with as consistent an output so he’s the front runner for me.

Re: 2020 Wrestler of the Year Ongoing Discussion

We are approximately halfway through the year now, and I have to say, I think Kenny Omega is holding on to the lead. He's been nothing but solid all year and now has three very good and memorable matches to his name with the Bucks tag match, the PAC Ironman match, and the Stadium Stampede (although you can certainly debate his contributions and the merit of the match as a whole, I thought it was great so I'm gonna put it in his favor).

Not really sure who's close right now either. Drew McIntyre has certainly been consistently good but he doesn't have that one true standout that you'd need to be in the running for this. Daniel Bryan is worth a shoutout too, as always. After those two, I don't know who you even put in the same category. Maybe after TakeOver IYH, an NXT guy will step up to the plate.

But right now I'm taking Omega 100%.

Re: 2020 Wrestler of the Year Ongoing Discussion

There's only so much I can attribute Stadium Stampede down to Omega when it was a 10 person comedy match, BUT, he was part of it never the less and I think it's easily the best comedy match of the year that I've seen. It supplements his case nicely though with having a MOTYC with Hangman and the Bucks, the great PAC ironman match and some other solid TV matches . I don't think there's been a better wrestler this year - but it's just so weird a year. Come December a lot of contenders might come from Japan if they're the nation that's able to return to normal the quickest.

Bryan is the best in WWE. Has the two Gulak matches and the Cesaro match, and the Fiend carryjob at the Rumble, but it's not better than the hand that Omega is holding right now.

This year's going to be hard for these awards because all the candidates don't feel like WOTY candidates at all to me. They just happen to be the best out of the pile. Kenny kinda feels like that to me but I wouldn't put him at #1 right now. Despite being probably the only one watching these DDT TV shows, I'd say Tetsuya Endo is number one.

For AEW guys I'd say Darby has had a better year than Kenny. Kenny's big matches are good (none blew me away) but the low-key matches still strike me as problematic. It's an incredibly weak year with a shallow field for obvious reasons though.

Tell you what, Thatcher's coming on strong here. He's one of the only wrestlers in the world where his style of wrestling actually isn't hampered by a lack of fans, and all four of his matches in NXT are really good. I was sceptical that he'd work in NXT, but I've been pleasantly surprised.

Echoing previous replies. first names that came to my head were; Omega, Cody, and I am going with an underdog here and say... Drew McIntyre. Im not a huge fan of his.. but what he has done this year alone has to put him up there.

I'm all for a Drew McIntyre shout out. His individual performances have been sensational all year. Have to hope he gets drawn against some more high quality opponents as the year goes on. Andrade, Aleister, Mysterio and people like that. Maybe a proper Lesnar match. Drew has been performing at a great level but matching up with guys like Lashley and MVP isn't gonna do him a ton of favors.

This. Given a RR win, and current WWE Champion, im throwing him in.. but facing modern day Ahmed Johnson (Lashley) bores me to no end. So if he could have a feud with Black, Andrade, maybe if a SD guy moves over, than Id rank him much higher.

Black might be a sneaky pick

Keith Lee is a another guy I put up here with Adam Page Riddle Thatcher has only had like 3 matches I seen so far I rank him higher then I do most.

Ilja is a guy I think would of been pretty high up on before Covid.

I'm hoping to watch few more NJPW stuff too before the voting.

I'm sure Gulak will be a fav here too.
