    Re: WWE Wrestlemania 36 Discussion

Wrestlemania has long been a dogshit PPV but it sells because people are marks for it as the biggest wrestling event of the year. Really, it's in some ways a genius move from WWE to commoditize the event and brand and turn it into a wrestling Mecca, though it totally fits their business model of making sure the it's the WWE brand which is equitable rather than getting individual workers or storylines over. They could hold a 5 hour farting competition and it would still sell out because it's Wrestlemania.

Personally I am beyond over the wheeling out of past-it veterans, the cramming of as many people as possible on the card in multi-man matches, the fake historical 'moments' (who gives a shit), and the only worthwhile matches getting 10 minutes and having to be safe because they can't over-shadow the 10 main event matches.

As a fan I could not give less of a shit about it being the biggest event of the year, most of the matches look passable on paper.

Brock vs Drew is really dependent on both guys turning up. Could be great or could be a dud.

Reigns vs Goldberg will likely be 5 minutes of both guys trading signatures, who gives a shit. Goldberg looked like he could barely take a bump and you can't convince me he will draw any more fans than someone else, because no one is a bigger draw than the Wrestlemania brand itself.

Cena vs Fiend - have to wheel Cena out for a match which will go 20 minutes and stink

Ripley vs Flair could be decent but I am beyond bored of Charlotte being shoe-horned into all these fake moments no one outside of WWE payroll gives a shit about

Becky vs Shayna could be good if it's literally a Shayna NXT template match with Becky in place of Kairi/Belair/Ripley/Shirari but Becky is a proven flop once the bell rings and I'm over her fake Steve Austin/Colin McGregor routine

I fully expect we'll also get:

Rollins vs Owens - the one match which actually would be better as a multi-man tag, even though they have ran that into the ground a bit.

Andrade vs Rey vs Humberto vs Garza - it will get 8 minutes and be fun rather than as good as it could be

    Otis vs Dolph

Styles vs Undertaker - see: Roman vs Goldberg

Braun vs Zayn - will go 4 minutes and be a pointless 'moment' for one of them

Kabuki Warriors vs Nattie/Beth - another wheel-out for a 'moment' that no one cares about

    Re: WWE Wrestlemania 36 Discussion

Growing up I always wanted to go to Wrestlemania because it was the biggest wrestling show of the year and something I always looked forward to as a fan. It was like a dream vacation scenario. I honestly have no desire to ever attend a mania now because it's a show not aimed for fans like me anymore and frankly they are exhausting to watch live, and I won't be watching it live this year either. They've been rubbish shows since WM32 and what really broke things was the brand split and creation of 4 new identical titles which get us to the ridiculous situation of having 15-16 matches on the card. And sometimes there can be the odd highlight on a show; the women at 32, the Brock/Goldberg sprint at 33, Ronda's debut at 34, Bryan/Kofi at 35, but it's not enough to justify a 6 hour time length, and when I look at the card this year, I don't see where that highlight is going to come from.

To be honest I think it's 50/50 the event even goes ahead. Explain Wrestlemania to a non-wrestling fan and they'd say it's a no brainer to postpone the event.

WM usually sucks. Its too much sports entertainment for me( lack of a better word) Its more about the spectacle than about pro wrestling and thats perfectly fine. Its just not for me

I went to WM 18 live when i was 21 and it was fun but way too long( about 4 hours) we left before the main event finished to beat traffic. i couldnt imagine going now at the length they are pushing.

i actually had a better time at the strip club we went to the night before.

i actually think i prefer watching wrestling on my couch or in a bar than live.

Having been there live last year, we were literally yelling at them to finish the match so we could go home. It was fucking miserable. The pre show started at 5 I think, and the show didn't end until like 1235. That's almost 8 fucking hours of being there. No thanks, never again.

We're officially on the Road To WrestleMania!!! It should be fine. I liked Mania last year despite the never-ending run time. The show this year will likely be the same. Drew vs Brock actually sounds pretty fab.

Not if you just sum up your aims in the first line. If you can’t do that, they’re too diffuse.

Huh. I've thought the last three WrestleMania were pretty damn solid. None of them would have been my show of the year but I still look forward to dedicating a day to watching it personally.

For me the shows start out fun but then fall off a cliff in the last couple of hours. I remember 33 being a blast right up to Triple H Vs Seth Rollins and then it killed the crowd and they never recovered.

Tampa city officials are discussing the cancellation of large events this week, so we’ll know soon enough.

Lesnar vs. Goldberg was pretty lit. Nothing else that came after that match deserved a receptive crowd.

The move to the performance center actually has me more curious about Wrestlemania now. It has potential to be the dullest show ever now, but the novelty of it could make it an interesting watch. What I do really like is that this Wrestlemania does have an identity now. How long has it been since a Wrestlemania stood out as having something clearly different? Maybe WM 20 since that was a MSG Mania? Just as Wrestlemania 2 is known for three locations, Wrestlemania 9 is toga party at Caesars Palace, Wrestlemania 36 will be that weird one at the performance center in front of no one.

Like I said in the other thread... it's gonna be very interesting to watch. Yes, the audience and their reactions are a big part of each show, especially Wrestlemania, but they have to put on some banger matches because no one else except for the Wrestlers are carrying this event.

I guess the HOF induction ceremony will also be something completely different this time...
