Hey Guys - Indy Promoter Here

Hey guys, I am the promoter for a fairly successful Indy promotion over a year now. Hoping to engage more with wrestling fans and try some different avenues of talking to wrestling fans in general. Stumbled upon this forum and it seems very active.

Just wondered if any of you have questions about starting a promotion, or anything really about Indy and what really goes on.

Sure! I'm just interested what a typical show entails.... How do you structure shows vs. payroll? How do you book your roster/shows?

Thoughts on David Starr's efforts to improve working conditions for people in the industry plus his pursuits for unionization.
Todd Chavez: I'm deeply sad and nothing can make me happy.

    Also, eat the rich.

Believe it or not. Facebook is how we started booking guys. Through the messenger. After you run a couple shows, wrestlers come to you. We are one of the few indies that prepay talent the minute they arrive day of show. So a good pay reputation has opened many doors.

As for structure vs payroll. You go in with a budget. My shows range from $1700-$4K. Get the roster and make the best possible matches. If thats what you meant by that question?

Most states have an athletic commission that oversee pro wrestling. We are in Ohio and are licensed. Ohio does not allow cutting. And regardless, I would never allow a wrestler to cut themselves. As of the union stuff. For the big worldwide promotions.....like WWE yes. Those guys should be salaried employees not Independent Contractors as they are signed to non-compete clauses.

However, wrestling is not governed nationally in the States. Its like Boxing and MMA and only governed on a state by state basis. So unionizing is going to be a tall task.

I prefer the name Chaos Wrestling anyway.

Do you feel under any pressure to book womens matches given what's happened on a national level in the last 5 years or so?

This may be a bit of a cheeky question, but which are your favourite promotions at the moment? Where do you get ideas or aspiration from?

None at all. Female Indies have driven the price of themselves up so far that very few use female talent.

I’m a very different promoter. The typical promoter is 1 of 2 things:1. Former Wrestler or current that wants to be the champ.2. A Die Hard wrestling fanI actually do not watch wrestling. I did 25 -30 years ago as a kid. I own a handful of businesses and started the promotion on a dare at a drunken poker night a while ago!

So what is your end goal as a promoter then? Get to a certain level of value and sell or...?

Right now with our Facebook deal - Viewership is king. Need to hit 100K views within 72 hours of the show consistently. This will give us a nice chunk from commercial dollars. We setup a very unique deal in that my marketing agency I own gets to sell 100% of the commercial time, while Facebook gets to keep 100% of the ad sense during the broadcast.

Our show is unique in that it is adult content. We cuss often, and do not do the gimmicky stuff.
