Re: WWE Talent Detained in Saudi Arabia

The rumor going around is that the Saudi's owed WWE money for shows and wouldn't pay so Vince cut the live feed of Crown Jewel which pissed them off. In retaliation, they essentially held the WWE talent and staff hostage and wouldn't allow them to take off. Vince, Brock, Hulk Hogan and a select few were the first ones out of the country while the rest of the talent were essentially left to themselves. Yeah... if all of that is true, that's pretty despicable.

Nah. Everyone is now back home. Their plane arrived back in America Saturday afternoon. So that's the good news in the situation.

My prediction is that once some of these talent leaves the WWE, whether it's next year, five years from now, or whenever, this incident will become a popular topic for shoot interviewers to ask them about.

Agree with that, though it wouldn't shock me if it'll turn into one of those situations where we will never know what really happened.

There's some cryptic tweeting here and there from those left stranded, but they'll all be subservient and be on the planes for their grueling European tour next week like good employees.

If the rumoured story is true that Vince fucked with the Saudi feed over a pay dispute and then fled the country with a couple of top stars, then this story deserves to blow up and is one of the strongest arguments out there that the wrestlers should look into unionising.

Re: WWE Talent Detained in Saudi Arabia

The bit that I find weirdest at this point is the WON report that the WWE is trying to get talent to go on record saying that they delay in flying out was entirely down to mechanical issues. Weird

One thing to remember is that the Saudis like to pull power moves with their money. Over small things, sometimes. Last year, a Canadian government official tweeted support for human rights in Saudi Arabia and in response, the Saudi government has withheld payments and also threatened a 9/11 on Toronto. So it would not at all be against form for the Saudi government to hold off on paying the WWE just to establish the power dynamic at play here.

Can't wait for Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels for the next 10 years as no one else will want to go

They are, as pointed out by someone in that reddit thread, a literal medieval dictatorship and batshit crazy. It's absurd that these companies and people are so greedy they are sticking by and insisting to do business with this nightmarish regime.

Of course, a lot of it for the US has to do with the fact we have strategic military positioning in our bases in KSA, being crucial to our power in the middle east and that part of the world. The USA enjoys having these bases over the world for a strike anywhere anytime military ability. But really, the right thing to do would be to entirely cut ties with these sort of hell holes, and ignore the greed and power.
