WWE NXT WWE NXT Discussion - October 23, 2019

    WWE NXT Preview
    October 23, 2019

Roderick Strong to defend the NXT North American Championship against Dominik Dijakovic and Keith Lee

Roderick Strong attempted to ensure he would not have to face Keith Lee or Dominik Dijakovic tonight on NXT, interfering in the rubber match between the two titans. However, his meddling has seemingly backfired, as Strong will be forced to defend his NXT North American Championship against both men in a Triple Threat Match.

Originally, The Velveteen Dream was scheduled to get a championship rematch against Strong. However, Strong and his Undisputed ERA cohorts brutally attacked His Purple Highness before the Oct. 16 edition of NXT, where they unveiled their heinous actions.

NXT General Manager William Regal revealed that Dream would not be able to compete next week or for quite some time. Instead, Strong’s next challenger would be the winner of the rubber match between Lee and Dijakovic. During an epic battle between the two monsters, the NXT North American Champion attacked both Superstars, but Regal would not stand for Strong’s insolence, making this huge Triple Threat Match.

Can Strong survive a battle with two of NXT’s biggest competitors, or will a new NXT North American Champion be crowned?

Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley clash as NXT Women's Division heats up

As the race to become the next challenger to NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler heats up, Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley will battle for the first time tonight, with both women looking to move up the ladder.

Last week on NXT, the two women threw their hats in the ring for a future title opportunity, with Belair taking offense at Rhea’s claim to a title opportunity, and Ripley is ready to demolish anyone standing between her and Baszler.

Who will move one step closer to an NXT Women’s Title opportunity?

How is Finn Balor's past his future?

Since his surprise return to NXT, Finn Bálor has been a man of few words. And when he has spoken, The Extraordinary Man has left the NXT Universe asking more questions — like he did last Wednesday, when he said, “Next week, my future will be my past.”

Just what did Finn Bálor mean by that?

Can Pete Dunne deal with both Killian Dain and Damian Priest?

Last week on NXT, Pete Dunne was out for payback on Damian Priest, but found himself on the losing end of the battle after The Archer of Infamy hit The BruiserWeight with a low blow. After the match, Dunne made it clear that Priest has his attention.

However, Priest is not the only Superstar Dunne has to worry about. Before his main-event showdown with Priest, Dunne locked eyes with Killian Dain, who had just demolished Boa. After some jaw jacking between the two, Dain seemingly made the error of pointing a finger at Dunne, as The BruiserWeight snapped his digits in a split second. The Beast of Belfast had to be restrained from going after Dunne during the ensuing commercial break.

How will Pete Dunne handle his search for retribution on Priest, along with his newfound enmity with Dain? Find out on WWE NXT, live this Wednesday at 8/7 C on USA Network!

Pretty solid show all around, but that main event was bonkers.

The close of the show was great too.

I can't say anything about a Balor/Gargano feud would interest me right now, but god damn did Finn nail this swerve. You just don't see it coming with it being already a 4 on 2 advantage when he shows up and him naturally being someone that could of faced Cole next. Hot angle to close the show.

I thought it was superbly done and as someone who has never seen him work as a heel I’m all aboard on seeing how this goes down. Excellent show and I know I’m alone but I’ve preferred NXT to AEW so far but I’m just happy we have more wrestling.

I think I would've preferred Cole vs Balor. Sounds like a much better match for Balor. Oh well Balor turning heel is a nice fresh coat of paint that was needed. Shame he is with such a death opponent for his first feud as heel Balor.

I’ve only seen his heel work through YouTube clips, but I am so hyped for heel Balor in NXT. That was done so well, and then the assault afterwards was perfect.

Also I thought Riddle Grimes was very good. I quite like Grimes character and his hat. Ripley looked great against Belair and it’s hilarious that the Horsewomen pretty much got squashed by Team Kick

This was probably my favorite episode of NXT in the USA era. Riddle/Grimes was very solid, I was happy to see Team Kick murk Shayna's sidekicks, loved the six man and I'm loving Breezango going full force with the Male stripper gimmick, and the main event triple threat was definitely what you would call a "wankfest" but it was highly entertaining nonetheless. The stuff to close the show was really exciting and the best bit of storyline progression we've had in weeks. I'm interested to see if Belair gets the next swing as Baszler or if there's like a fatal fourway in the works with Ripley and Shirai. Whatever the case, I'll take any of those three over Baszler at this point.

Giving Belair the shot after she lost cleanly to Ripley would be a weird flex. I’m guessing they go 4 way with it but it’s odd they only have the one face in the match in Ripley. She’s clearly the fan favorite though.

Ah you right. I was thinking Belair won for some reason.

Thought the main event was great. All three men shined and it was easily Lee and Dijak's best match in the company. That's the best tower of doom spot in decades simply because Dijak didn't take Strong off the turnbuckle cleanly enough and had to show immense strength to steady Strong.
