Finally got to this, glad I saw it in a cinema instead of home release because this is the type of film that deserves the full cinematic experience.

I've settled on award season essentially being marketing for the non-blockbuster crowd, but how this can get so many best picture noms, and yet George MacKay got no best actor recognition is absurd. He's literally in 99% of the movie, it lives and dies on how good he is.

Long story short, Best Actor is the most loaded category every year because men get all the juiciest parts, so tons of great performances simply can't break through every year. Joker is nothing without Joaquin Phoenix, Adam Driver is the backbone of Marriage Story, Leo and Pitt are the driving forces of Once Upon a Time, Uncut Gems lives and dies by Adam Sandler, etc etc etc.

Every year you get probably ten to fifteen great Best Actor nominees if you go looking. No one gets better parts than men do so it's a tough, tough, TOUGH field to break out in.
