Heyman And Bischoff : Executive Directors

WWE has named Paul Heyman as Executive Director of Monday Night Raw and Eric Bischoff as Executive Director of SmackDown LIVE, newly created positions reporting directly to WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon.

In their executive roles, Heyman and Bischoff will oversee the creative development of WWE’s flagship programming and ensure integration across all platforms and lines of business. The creation of these roles further establishes WWE’s ability to continuously reinvent its global brand while providing two distinct creative processes for its flagship shows.

I thought this was a BTB for a hot minute.

Well I couldn't find this on WWE's site but it's been confirmed many other places like SI already.

I'm not sure what to make of this. It's extremely unexpected. Hopefully these two guys will be allowed to do what they do with minimal interference from Vince. Having said that, I can already see one or both of these guys quitting this job by the end of the year when they remember what hell it is working with Vince.

Well that's certainly something big. Not sure how much change it'll bring to the shows given Vince McMahon will still be in charge of everything. I guess we can appreciate the sentiment.

Now just because they were a success in the past, doesn't mean that they will be be a success now. Bischoff in TNA proved that.

It'll be an interesting few weeks for sure.

Bischoff era TNA, I thought, was entertaining programming. The only downsides I felt were using Hulk's buddies and putting too much stock in off the rails Jeff Hardy. And I imagine in this role he won't have much say in terms of personnel. At least, he won't have final say. I'm pretty excited to see if there are any noticeable changes or if this is all purely aesthetic.

    Same here

Can’t imagine this changes much. They’ll still be reporting to Vince and required to provide him with good shit. The other thing for me here, the last time Bischoff had a big role it didn’t too much good in TNA. And Heymans WWECW was an unmitigated disaster. Sure, there’s reasons for both those things happening, but we’re still nearly 20 years removed since either guy had a positive impact creatively in wrestling. Right now, WWE is in need of new ideas, not old ones.

I’ll concede though, if we get Smackdown 2002 era stuff from Heyman on Raw, I’ll be happy.

Maybe that's true but it still doesn't put him in a better light. I'm willing to see what he can do though. Especially with other people's infuence alongside him.

Yes, this will clearly end well with all parties involved being happy and content, resulting in an absolutely stellar product for the fans to enjoy.

    Clearly.

CLEARLY this will happen and not blow up in everybody's faces.

Honestly, this feels like some sort of superhero movie where the old heroes and villains unite to take on the common enemy.

Except...the cynic in me says Vince is still in charge.

That's the rational thinker in you because Vince is almost certainly gonna control 99% of what happens in the end.

I mean I can only speak for myself. That was a good period of TNA for me. I was a bit of a mark for them back in 2011. But it was far from flawless. At the end of the day, I think Bischoff and Heyman are both more self aware than Vince and unlike Vince they've had time to sit back and actually take in the programming and maybe have some idea on how to steer things in the right direction. Maybe.

Biggest question here, does Eric’s Blue Chew sponsorship come with him to Smackdown?

Ha! Wouldn't be the same without Conrad's transitions into the ads for it.

First Bruce, now Eric. Work with Conrad on a podcast and you may find yourself working for WWE again.

I’m kind of excited for this tbh. I can’t wait to see what kind of differences they may bring.

I am cautiously optimistic that this whole thing will work out for the best, but how long before both Heyman and Bischoff lose their minds when Vince rewrites the show 30 minutes before going live.

I do love the visual of Vince, Bruce, Heyman, Bischoff and Jeff Jarrett sitting around Vince’s pool at 2AM when the lightbulb goes off in Vince’s head for a “that’s good shit” idea.

If it said at the end of the sentence they report to Triple H then I'd be excited. Report to Vince? FUCKKKKK.

I still will be open minded, just because at least it's something.

I might give a cursory glance to both shows once we know these guys have started running the show but I'm not interested in giving WWE much more than that so they'd better grab me fast. I know better than to presume any sort of serious change will occur with Vince at the top.

At this point it can’t hurt and from listening to his podcast it seems Bischoff has learned a lot over the years. It’s cool and I’m down with it.

Yea this is def something that is worth noting maybe Vince saw to do this after all the writers producers left. Bishoff say what you want without having to worry about bringing others in the roster and just working with the talent he has can go far. Bishoff and Heyman alike biggest failures were that they werent as money savey as Vince I think creative wise are better then Vince.
