Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Discussion Thread

England have never won the World Cup but have come close with three finals appearances. England are the #1 ranked one day international team and are the favourites. Currently they defeated Pakistan very easily in the one day series. Amazing how in three matches in a row England chased down totals over 300+ runs. Looking at their squad, it’s very strong. David Willey is very unfortunate to miss out. He deserved to be included. I always think a left arm bowler is a worthwhile inclusion. Now England only have right arm seamers for the tournament. Their lack of left arm pace could cost them. I would have left Plunkett out.

Surprised that Dawson made the squad. Do we really need a 3rd spinner though as we have Ali and Rashid. Archer is a wildcard option to have, glad he made it. Strengthens the team and could end up becoming one of the best bowlers of the tournament.

Disappointing obviously that Hales missed out. Now given the situation it’s probably the right call from the ECB. Would rather have him in the squad over Vince. Still it is an incredibly strong squad, more than capable of going all the way and winning the World Cup on home soil.
England have one of the most strongest batting line ups at their disposal. Roy, Morgan, Bairstow, Buttler and Root. Plus all rounders Stokes and Ali and that’s a formidable looking like up.

The defending champions Australia are the most successful team in WC history. They’ve won it 5 times and also reached two finals. They won it back in England 20 years ago. Warner and Smith have come back into the side and their squad looks good. Australia have now come back into form at the right time. They usually deliver in WC tournaments and with this squad they should at least get to the semis.

India are a strong team and my pick to win it. The pitches will suit the batsmen more so this will be a high scoring tournament. My two most disliked teams are India and Australia. New Zealand were runners up of the previous WC, underrated team. South Africa are WC chokers so will they finally end the choker tag? Pakistan, West Indies and Sri Lanka are unpredictable teams. Bangladesh may surprise many teams, they beat England in the 2015 tournament and qualified for the QFS ahead of England. The past two hosts have won it so maybe this time England finally win it. Predicting an England vs Australia/India final.

This is England's to lose. They are the team on form, the team that has been scoring highly on a consistent basis and they have finishers when chasing. Stick India in on a cloudy day with some wind about and they'll stutter badly. Saffers always flatter to deceive so you could rule them out now. Aussies are always a danger, no matter how they are playing as they always seem to show up when it matters most. NZ will be tough to crack, and the dark horses as ever have to be the Windies.

I also don't like the round robin format this time out, maybe it'll grow on me, but the group system worked so why change it?

Good innings by England, Ben stokes with a great innings of 89 but had to dig in deep for sure, thought South Africa fielded excellent.

Posted a decent total of 311, should be enough to get us through a tough opening game.

Great opening day win for England. Stokes was brilliant with the bat, bowling and in the field. What an amazing catch, one of the best catches ever. Archer bowled very well, excited to see him play. I couldn’t get tickets for any of the England games. Still trying though but I think they’re all sold out. Going to the Pakistan vs West Indies game tomorrow with my mate. Can’t wait!

Baldrick: I love the round robin format, everyone gets to play each other. The best 4 teams advance. The first WC I watched was 1992 so I love this format.

Pakistan vs Windies should be a cracker, two very good ODI sides there, just hope the conditions don't hinder it for you haha.

Was expecting a far closer game here, windies ripping through this Pakistan batting order.

Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Discussion Thread

Well played West Indies, easy win. Great knock by Chris Gayle. Their bowling was brilliant. They could go far in this tournament. Is this the beginning of WI cricket’s resurgence? Very poor performance by Pakistan. Can they bounce back from this defeat? I had a great day out, fun experience. This game ended way too early so now I want to go to another match.

New Zealand with an easy 10 wicket win over Sri Lanka. The current champions Australia won their opening game. Brilliant win for Bangladesh, wouldn’t even call that an upset. They’re a good team and South Africa continue to choke.

Looking forward to England vs Pakistan today. England thrashed Pakistan in the one day series so I’m expecting England to win this game today.

Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Discussion Thread

Brilliant game. Expected England to pull off the highest run chase in WC history but it just wasn’t their day. There was always a chance until Buttler was out. Brilliant knocks by Root and Buttler. England‘s bowling and fielding was poor today. Roy dropping Hafeez proved costly. How often do you see a team losing a match when two batsmen score centuries? England play Bangladesh next, it won’t be an easy game.

Where was this Pakistan team on Friday? Such an unpredictable team. Never write them off. They bounced back from their opening game defeat to beat the favourites. They ended their 11 game losing drought. I agree with Nasser Hussain, Pakistan one minute down, next minute up.

6 matches played so far and I’m already loving this more than the football WC.

He really could, easy win for them in the end as expected with a low score to chase like that.

On to today fair play to Pakistan who batted really well when been placed into bat first in the first place, England really didn’t help themselves though Rashides bowling was very questionable today, among other wood etc.

The fielding and Jason Roy in particular was shocking way to casual with mistake after mistake, going on to the batting Roy again I’m not sure why he responded the umpire the way he did, he’s got problems against spin and anyone with any cricket knowledge could see with the naked eye that was plum out, not getting his argument.

Root and butler with some fine work for the 100’s but stokes and Morgan going cheap didn’t really help us, great watch but England way way below par.

Another match, another time the bails don't fall off after being hit haha. I've seen lots of complaints about this however i'm sure the lightup technology isn't the issue here as they'll surely be using the same technology used around the world in the domestic game right?

Dominant display from England against West Indies today. First entire match I've watched in some time but I've got the cricket bug again.

Joe Root is so my type of player. Pure class.

The run in for England in this round of fixtures is quite nasty (aside from what should be an easy win against Afghanistan).

Re: Cricket World Cup 2019 Discussion Thread

Certainly rode our luck with that Stokes dive adding 4 extra runs for us at a crucial time. The one rule I don't agree with is if the game is tied in the super over it's the team with the most boundaries that win. It's 12 sodding balls, do another super over but with different batsmen and bowlers.

Brilliant final though, went through so many emotions through it all, thought NZ had it once Buttler went but the Northern lad Stokes got us home.

Bring on the Ashes now so we can beat the Aussies again.
