What’s with Shingo being gone for so long then suddenly in the spotlight? Has it just been Dragon Gate this whole time?

Will write some extended thoughts on it tomorrow, but Walter Vs David Starr from OTT Wrestlerama 3 is another great match from the best feud in independent wrestling since Steen and Generico. How much you enjoy it will depend on how into the storyline you are, just pure in-ring work their wXw match is probably the better match, but the two 2019 matches are probably the best two I'd say.

I loved the match. And they made great use of the false Starr win. I thought Starr went a bit over the top after the match by shouting at the ref. Just too corny for me although I get why they did it. I'm not sure how I'd compare it to their other matches but I did think it was far better than their earlier 16 Caret Gold match. In saying that, I think it's bordering the lines of a MOTYC for me.

If there was a WWE MOTY, Gable/Corbin in the KOTR Finals would be up there for me.

I haven't seen it yet, but are you seriously saying it's better than Kofi/Bryan?

Pretty fucking bold. I'm not putting it in the same category as Rollins/Lesnar, Rollins/Styles, Kingston/Bryan, Balor/Lesnar, the SHIELD match at Fastlane or Mysterio/Andre.

    No way.

It wouldn't beat Kofi/Bryan, but it beats out the other matches for me. I'm also not as high on Lesnar/Rollins as much as the rest of you guys are.

Tbf I think I rate Rollins/Lesnar higher than pretty much anyone else here, with the possible exception of Grim.

Ospreay vs Red at Super J Cup was insane. Ospreay is just too good.

I can see that point. It didn't need to be that long but there was a lot of greatness. The back flip ddt might be the best looking one ever. As the match finished it was definitely an awesome moment for Red

    You know me so well.

Legit think the MOTY is between Rollins/Lesnar and Rollins/AJ. Both were exceptional matches that I believe constitute five stars, or at the very minimum, 4 3/4 stars.

Re: 2019 Match of the Year Ongoing Discussion

Gable/Corbin was ****1/2 - ****3/4 to me. Sounds weird, but here are some reasons why:
    - The crowd did not seem lively from the get-go of the show
    - Although the crowd wasn't insanely into the match to start, Corbin used his natural heat to rile up the crowd and slowly get them invested into the match
    - Gable played the underdog role perfect, selling, facial expressions, and all
    - No point in the match, did I feel like anything dragged, or felt dull. Everything felt like it transitioned naturally.
    - These two wrestled a match that made the whole crowd feel like the KOTR Final was the most important thing for their careers
    - Towards the end of the match, the entire arena sounded as if they were captivated by the two performers, and they were emotionally rooting for Gable to win
    - For me personally, it's hard to get invested into a match from start to finish nowadays, but this one had me glued
    - Last but not least, it was all around a really good match with some really good spots

Re: 2019 Match of the Year Ongoing Discussion

thought Corbin vs Gable was good but wouldn't say its in the top 20 WWE match of the year so MOTY feels like a stretch.

Corbin has improved but still isn't that exciting when controlling a match, which he was doing for most of it. Thought Gable was pretty great with his pinballing, selling and flash submissions. Plus I'm a sucker for anyone who uses the koppo kick. I thought they did a really good job laying this out and to his credit Corbin did good cutting off Gable's comebacks and allowing him to get a little more in each time to build to the big end run.

good match but I'm not sure it was better than Gable vs Gallagher

Re: 2019 Match of the Year Ongoing Discussion

good match, the crowd didn't care too much for them at the start of the match but then they really got behind them later on which is a clear sign they did well. I didn't think it was significantly better than anything from Sunday night however, but it was a good way to end a tournament that's really delivered in TV matches.

He has improved, but there is a common theme with these recent good Corbin matches, he's in there against good wrestlers who can do the athletic, technical stuff he can't and he can base for the smaller dudes and their dives and he can make up for their lack of personality they might display in other matches because the guy is hated. Guys like Alexander, Ricochet, Gable. If you put him in there with someone like Kofi or Braun or Roman I don't think it's going to result in anything as good as what we've had in recent weeks.
