Since winning the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in his hometown of Melbourne, Australia, at WWE Super Show-Down last year, Murphy has demanded only the best competition in the world. WWE 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick has obliged, leading to memorable battles with the likes of Cedric Alexander, Humberto Carrillo, Mark Andrews and Akira Tozawa.

Nese earned the opportunity to challenge Murphy at The Showcase of The Immortals by defeating former champion Alexander in the finals of this year’s WWE Cruiserweight Championship Tournament. In addition to besting The Soul of WWE 205 Live, The Premier Athlete also claimed victories against Kalisto andDrew Gulak to advance in the tournament.

Ever since he began training with Murphy, Nese has shown a renewed focus and competitiveness and will have the chance to put his mettle to the ultimate test when he challenges The Unstoppable for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship in the shadow of New York City, just miles away from his home of Long Island, NY.

Don’t miss WrestleMania 35, streaming live on the award-winning WWE Network on Sunday, April 7!

Tony Nese gets a WrestleMania (preshow) Moment? Really?

No.... but hes the best option that hasn't really had a chance. Id even say hes the best option at this point in time. Besides Murphy, He, Tozowa and Gulak are the top guys there. They desperately need a tag title on 205 live. And moving Ali to Smackdown imo was a bad move. It was a huge blow to 205 live.

Re: WWE WrestleMania 35 - Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy vs Tony Nese

Tony Neese is a great option to challenge Murphy, especially given their history. I could even see him winning the title here.

205 Live would benefit from a tag team division but they need to replenish the roster first as currently it's far too small for a singles and tag division. I hope that they bring in Sin Cara, Raul Mendoza, Zema Ion, Garza Jr (who's apparently on his way in to WWE) bring back TJ Perkins, Robbie E (who's just been signed) is under 205lbs according to Wikipedia so bring him in, add some more names in there to boost the numbers a bit.

I don't think sending Ali to Smackdown was a bad move. It was a bad move for 205 Live perhaps as they lost their top (by a long shot) babyface, but for Ali it's been a great move. He's instantly been pushed in the main event scene and had he not been injured we could be looking forward to Ali vs Bryan for the WWE Championship at Wrestlemania right now. We would have at least seen that match happen at Fastlane, as apparently the original plan was to do Bryan vs Ali at Fastlane and Bryan vs Owens at Mania. Plans changed when Ali got injured and Kofi-Mania started running wild though.

205 Live need to work better at establishing top guys though. Ali's left a big hole and Cedric has tailed off. Humberto Carrillo is a great wrestler but he's very green in terms of his mic work. I'm amazed that they're pushing him so much as he wouldn't be able to carry himself as a top babyface at this point. Can you imagine him gong against Murphy? He wouldn't stand a chance. I think he'd be better off in a tag team. Him and Mendoza would put on killer matches against Lucha House Party. Or team him with Garza Jr, who's his cousin.

Where is all the love for 205 Live during the Weekly Shows feel like a deserted Ghost town in the West at times. I can't say Nese is the best option, he was thrusted into teaming with Murphy to begin with it didn't feel natural at for them to team together. Now he was the only guy with any kind of momentum on the 205 Live right now. Humberto is still new as is Mike Kanellis, and with them teaming WWE felt it would be the easiest way to create a story heading into Mania. I'm hoping this feud comes off strong, one of the things that got me away from watching was the same guys being in the same opportunities, now Nese is next guy with the opportunity and I hope if he does win the CW Title it's done in a great manner.

I was implying it was a bad move for 205 live. The last thing i wanted was that 205 live would be a feeder system for the main roster. Agreed on Carrillo. I hope UE ends up on 205 live.

I don't watch 205 live..live. I watch the best matches when they hit youtube. The only thing i like about WWE is 205 live and NXT.

I've never been a fan of Nese dating back to his time on the indies. The fact that he's in this match removes any interest I may have had to see the Cruiserweight Title defended on the Kick-Off.

Tony Nese has been very good on 205 Live recently and the reaction to this is a clear indicator that people haven't watched this show in forever. He's really improved in the last year and he logically makes sense as Buddy's opponent given their history. Right choice to win the tournament, Buddy's faced practically every other babyface multiple times.

It's clear that losing Mustafa Ali from the show has resulted in more people not watching anymore. They more than any brand need new faces after mania.

Brian Kendrick is my least favourite on the show.

I liked Nese but I haven't watched 205 Live in ages so consider this a shock that he has been given the nod. Is Nese still a heel or has he turned face? Or did Buddy turn face? Either way, this should be a fun match. Looking forward to it.

The thing is Nese puts on good matches with most guys he faces. Hes reliable in the way. I hate that WWE moved Ali to smackdown. They lost Hideo, Ali and TJP within a few months..

I dont want 205 live to be a feeder brand. In a perfect world, they'd move Ali, Rey, and Ricochet to 205 live. Taking the best guys away is just gonna make more people lose interest.

Its like instead of helping the brand, they are just trying to ruin it. The way its going, i wouldnt be surprised to see them cancel it.

Well Nese was a Heel rolling with Murphy, but after what Murphy did to him after the Match he had with Alexander he's been thrusted into being a Face now

Nese is awesome and has definitely improved he’s been killing it lately on 205, do yourselves a favor and watch his match Cedric Alexander from this past week. Buddy is awesome too, and this does make the most sense storyline wise.

It’ll be in NYC where Nese is from, so I can see him picking up the win for a feel good moment.

Agreed on Dar for sure. I just don't get what his character is supposed to be and that entire run when he was with Alicia Fox was horrendous. I like Gallagher a lot but I can see how his character would become grating on people in a short amount of time. I actually think the heel turn worked wonders for him in terms of making him look like a guy that could actually kick your ass instead of just taunting you.

Do you remember the match Gallagher had with Neville? Think it might have been at Fastlane a couple of years ago. I actually think the heel turn made him far less interesting to me.

Noam Dar has been awful but he was actually good on the first few episodes of NXT UK.

I like his heel turn. Nothing has come from it lately. Hes had one or two solid tags vs Lucha house party. But its Lucha House Party. On 205 live, House Party usually has great matches.

As Order pointed out, Gallagher had a great match vs Neville. It was great. But Its Neville. Bo Dallas had a great match vs Neville.

Nese has consistently had great matches. Its becoming part of his MO.

A tad off topic. I dont even get why there is an NXT uk. The show isnt that great. They had a good PPV.....but NXT isnt where it used to be. Take the top guys from the uk brand and put them with nxt and 205 live.

Yep, that was a great match. I meant more that his heel turn would probably turn some of his detractors around on him.

He had a great tornado tag with Gulak against Kendrick and Tozawa a couple of months back as well. Haven't seen him since but I also haven't been watching as regularly these days.
