I don't think EC3 is high up on the list but he's at least wrestled Kurt several times before and is someone who could use the good rub from being Kurt's final opponent. I do feel like we don't have nearly enough time for them to make him an interesting or sensible opponent though.

Thing is, they clearly don't take EC3 too seriously and if they dont have HUGE plans for him, he shouldn't go over Angle at 'Mania, if at all.

In a perfect world, it would be AJ Styles or Daniel Bryan. Of all of the available part-timers/legends, Cena not only makes the most sense, he would put on the best match.

Although I'd completely understand why it would be John Cena given their history and the fact that Cena currently doesn't have anything lined up for Wrestlemania (Although I'd be in full support of a Cena/Joe WM match), I can't help but feel a bit disappointed if it does end up being Cena. They've already wrestled each other so many times. Four times on PPV, twice on SD, twice on Raw, and many more times in various multi-men matches. I've literally only been to one Raw taping in my entire life and the dark match after the Live Raw (Which featured Cena vs Angle in a tag match) was Cena vs Angle. I'm sure it will be an enjoyable match, but I wouldn't call it an exciting match-up. It's a match that simply is the safe pick rather than go with something fun. Angle has been wrestling in the WWE again for what, a year and a half? His singles matches aren't exactly dream matches, which is especially frustrating since there was a time over a decade ago when a potential Angle vs Bryan Danielson match was the legitimate #1 dream match for the IWC. We had a solid year to finally get that dream match, but we don't get it. But hey, we get Cena vs Angle IX though...

This is a great idea. Like a farewell tour ROH did with Bryan

Have people been watching Angle in his WWE run? If you want to tick off 'dream matches' happening for the sake of happening then go ahead, but Angle matches tend to be fairly quick and uninteresting. Nothing about what I've seen of him recently suggests lets have a bunch of great matches on paper because in execution they won't be good matches at all and at the very least I don't think they'll hype people up for a match with Cena.

It's more sad than exciting to watch Angle wrestle. He can barely even turn and constantly looks like he's unaware of where he is.

I hope his last match is pretty short. Give him the Cena match so Cena can half ass another 5 minute match.

Re: Who should Kurt Angle face at WrestleMania?

Is Angles decline as a wrestler the quickest anyone else can recall? Maybe part of it is down to how good he was at his peak (and obviously his body being a wreck), but he still seemed capable of a solid slightly above average match toward the end of his TNA run, though not the wrestler he once was. But his second WWE run has been horrible in ring. The Ronda tag match was fun, but he was the fourth most important part of that match in my eyes.

I almost feel it’d be a waste of Cena to face Angle when a Samoa Joe match for the U.S Title writes itself for Cena. That said, it feels obvious it’ll be Angle vs Cena instead at this point. Hopefully it only lasts as long as their first ever match. Doesn’t need to be longer than 5 minutes.

I think there's been bigger drops in quality quicker. Angle has been slowing down for some time and even the difference between him in 2002 Vs him in 2007 is still a noticeable drop.

Off the top of my head. HHH going from one of the best guys in WWE in 2001 to unwatchable trash in 2002-2003 is a big drop that he never got back to. Samoa Joe fell off a cliff in terms of in ring quality by 2008 and never got back to his peak. Dolph Ziggler from 2014 onwards is like a totally different wrestler too.

Is he really? I don't think much has changed except how he's received and the material he has to work with.

I know there are more factors at play, but Bret going from some of his best ever work both in-ring and character wise in 1997 to his final few years in WCW seems like a much sharper drop in quality than Angle

Tomoaki Honma's neck injury took him from being a great wrestler in 2017 to so sad I can't even watch him anymore.

Certainly. But I also think the drop was much rapid than others. The drop he went from the 2003 Lesnar feud to everything else after that is quite big.

Re: Who should Kurt Angle face at WrestleMania?

I would have loved for it to have been Daniel Bryan. Angle has always said that he wanted his retirement match to be against Bryan. It's now likely to be one of those fantasy matches that never happened now. A shame.

I think John Cena makes sense to me. Part of me wants to see Cena put over Samoa Joe in a US title match. Joe deserves that. But now that they've announced this as Angle's last match then Cena is an obvious choice for this spot.

If it's going to be an up and coming wrestler then Drew McIntyre could work, they've had some great matches in TNA. McIntyre is likely to face Reigns though I think so that's off the table.
Given that, then Baron Corbin could be an option for Angle. This would be a hugely anticlimatic end to his career IMO. I'd rather see Angle have a blow-off against Corbin as part of his farewell tour on Raw in the coming weeks.
I like the idea of EC3, they had some excellent matches in TNA too, though so far WWE have essentially burried EC3 on the main roster and realistically there isn't enough time to build a match between them. Could be a nice left field choice though for Angle to announce that match tonight.
Now that he's no longer IC champion I wonder if Finn Balor is in the running? That could be an excellent match. Johnny Gargano is also a possibility too given that Ciampa is now out for the forseeable future. This would also be a guaranteed excellent match as Gargano is a match of the night machine whenever he's on a show.

I'm intrigued to see who Angle picks tonight. I imagine that WWE have allowed him to hand pick his opponent (within reason) too so it's nice that the choice at least will be genuine for Angle.

As for who should go over, I think it depends on the opponent. If it's Cena then I think Angle should win it. Cena doesn't need the win. If it's a young star however then Angle should go out on his back I think, and I don't think he'll have any issues with doing that.
I'm glad that Angle has had this run back in WWE. The fans needed it and so did he. I'm also glad that his last match will be a one on one match and that he'll likely get a great 20 minute match on the grandest stage of them all.

Re: Who should Kurt Angle face at WrestleMania?

My guess is Cena or Mysterio. Cena’s first WWE match against Angle. Mysterio’s first ppv match was against Angle. Rey is likely to be in a multi-man match for the US title. Taker is probably done now because if they had something planned for him, they would have started the build for his match at the start of this month.

Cena inducted Kurt into the HOF. You don’t need build up for this match. It comes full circle as Kurt was Cena’s first opponent and now Kurt wants his last match against Cena. Whoever Kurt faces, it won’t be a long match. Kurt has his limitations and he’s lost most of his matches since WM33. Maybe Kurt picks a younger star? Really hope it’s not Corbin.

There's a greater chance of Baron Corbin being loved by the IWC than Shelton Benjamin receiving a Wrestlemania match against Kurt Angle. Benjamin seems to firmly be nothing more than a body on the roster with him never receiving anything important. To go from not being involved in a non-Royal Rumble PPV match since Royal Rumble 2018 to suddenly wrestling a singles match at Wrestlemania against Angle seems incredibly unlikely. With this being Angle's final match, it's going to make the main card, which makes it even more unlikely it will be Shelton since if Benjamin is getting a singles match at WM, it's going to be on the pre-show.
