Some good cards for all three of the Japan shows. The US show cards haven't been announced yet. I don't expect anything big to be announced for the shows either. However New Japan has said people who aren't on the Japan shows will be on the US shows and a few notable names are missing. Hirooki Goto, Roppongi 3K, Yuji Nagata and Tomohiro Ishii. So I assume they'll be apart of the LA and Charlotte shows.

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

Really liking the look of LIJ Vs Suzuki and Zack, they make for a really good tag team in Rev-Pro and I think they're gonna win the titles to step everything up, make Zack feel like he's on Suzuki's level ready for them to collide in the G1 this year.

I think they're doing Switchblade/Tanahashi too soon. Feels like a match that Jay can't afford to lose but it's too soon for him to be Champion. I know there's a chance of him going down the Okada path off him winning his first title at a New Beginning show, but they have a huge year ahead of them. I can't see Jay White walking out at MSG as the champion of the promotion. I've got a feeling that's gonna be Tanahashi Vs Jericho if anything.

Doing Fale as Okada's post-WK program AGAIN is hilarious.

Liking the Gabe feel of the 'special singles match' for LIJ/Suzuki gun.

Ospreay, Juice, KES, Best Friends also not on the cards. Guessing we get Juice vs Beretta. Not sure who Ospreay is gonna face or if hes actually gonna be there. Cobb vs Goto seems likely along with Ishii-Nagata. Juice vs Beretta too. If Ospreay defends, ROH could send someone.

Really think Jay is winning the belt here. I can't see the benefit to having Tanahashi keep it for a long reign really unless Kenny is coming back.

If Naito drops the IC belt before MSG then I am sure he is leaving as the hebbiq champ.

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

MC has edited it in, but it's worthy pointing out that on the 29th January it's Kushida's last match and he's getting the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi in a non-title singles match. Sounds like an awesome way to go out and perhaps an insight into what Kushida would of looked like against heavyweights, a small glimpse at least. Nice gesture of New Japan to give Kushida a big match against a good friend of his as he leaves.

Added the Road To Show cards to the OP!

KUSHIDA vs Hiroshi Tanahashi for KUSHIDA's last match. Loads of Suzuki-Gun vs LIJ tags. Loads of Okada and Tanahashi teaming together. A NEVER Openweight Six Match Title Match too. Good line up of cards.

Tanahashi vs White is a match I have little to no interest in, but atleast there will be a lot of heating going into it following the Dome. Should make a token defence a bit more interesting.

I'm not really into American politics so I'm not entirely sure what went one with the visa situation (I'm sure some of the Americans can shed some light on it). But what I gathered, the US government is limiting visas or unable to provide them for foreigners which means few Japaneses talent can show up on the shows (basically the ones who already have visas) as of now which is a big loss for those shows. And depending on how long it lasts, could permanently damage New Japan's efforts in trying to expand into the US.

The cards look fine considering. The main events for these shows looks pretty good though.

There's not a single one of those matches on any of those shows I have even remote interest in & are rightly being rejected by many people. Below average even by ROH standards & a terrible impression to leave in this AEW era.

I can say that with 100% confidence that the government shutdown can impact these things but it's not an excuse at all. They could have & should have gotten a make good of some sort from ROH or brought in a noteworthy indie talent for a one off, but they didn't. A lot of fans will remember this the next time there's a show without a card announced beforehand.

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

My favourite part of this was a statement wasn’t made from the company explaining the lack of Japanese talent until after the card was announced and rejected. They tried to get away with just presenting this card with no explanation or apology. like Zero said this will stick in the memory and put people off buying tickets to blind shows in good faith.

With good planning they might of already sorted these visas out before the shutdown occurred. Maybe they left everything to the last minute. I doubt many big names were coming over for this anyway with the Japan version of this tour going on, I’d say 75% of this card is what they would of tried to use regardless of visa issues.

Totally agree that New Japan's handling of this was bad too. New Japan are sabotaging their own expansion with the cards basically being Road To Shows. Very half arsed attempts. I think they'll struggle to sell any US shows after this unless the cards are proper star studded cards.

Feel like I've heard this spiel about NJPW fucking up their expansion a few times already

I don't mind the cards, personally, because it gives me a chance to see alot of new talent that I might not check out otherwise + Shibata's YLs are in.

Yeah, I can understand being pissed at this. But the only thing really essential was Ishii and Nagata's involvement. Shit happens I guess. I still think NJPW was going to put on a weak card anyway like this so I don't think there's that much to be upset about.

There is a reason why people keep saying it. Even you have to admit, they aren't doing a great job as far as the US shows go. The weak cards for the shows. New Japan not promoting the shows as much as they should, lack of fresh match-ups. It's not a total failure yet but they could and probably should be doing so much better. I don't mind the cards myself, but they don't feel like New Japan cards which in turn lowers the interest in them greatly.

Anyway the Road To Shows begin tomorrow. The Korakuen Hall look like they are worth watching with KUSHIDA vs Tanahashi main eventing one of those shows.

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

Eh, it could be better but considering that Japan is still the number one priority, it's easy to look over. I don't think the cards have been blowaway great but I can also understand why they were the way they were. Elite's involvement in NJPW probably got a lot of fans over so they've been trying to please them with their US shows quite a bit. To me, they're obviously stuck between two different kind of fan types - those who take an interest in the native stars and the entire promotion and those who only take an interest in the big names involved, mostly the likes of Omega, Cody etc. So maybe with the Elite gone, NJPW will realise their native dudes are over as fuck too. But you also have to wonder if an Okada could truly lead a Western expansion - we both know there's loads of fans who wouldn't be interested in the natives leading the company in America. We will see what happens. The shows sold out and people were told these weren't going to be big shows so... clearly, there's an interest and they're not doing that bad. I just think a lot of the critical people are those who want the NJPW they see in Japan to be the NJPW they see in America and it's an understandable viewpoint to have but there's reasons for not wanting that also if you're trying to compete with WWE in the west.

The fact the G1 has been announced to have an opening day is Dallas should show you they're still taking this seriously and this was a slight blip. I look forward to people complaining about the card for that show too I still find the cards somewhat interesting, it's just not involving alot of main NJPW storylines.

    KUSHIDA to get squashed instantly.

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

Today's main event was wild. Everything felt chaotic and it was essential a free for all. Great match. Taichi was pretty much the star of the match, which isn't as bad as it sounds. He was awesome to watch. You can see how motivated he is for this feud. He is giving Naito some much needed flavour that he has missed for a while now. The match did an excellent job at promoting and building the matches on the New Beginnings shows.

    Tomorrow's card:
    Ren Narita vs Yuya Uemura
Manabu Nakanishi & Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs Ayato Yoshida & Shota Umino
Ryusuke Taguchi & Toa Henare vs Taiji Ishimori & Yujiro Takahashi
Chase Owens, Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa vs Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe & Toru Yano
YOSHI-HASHI & Kazuchika Okada vs Jay White & Bad Luck Fale
Tetsuya Naito, BUSHI, Shingo Takagi, "King of Darkness" EVIL & SANADA vs. Minoru Suzuki, Zack Sabre Jr, Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & El Desperado
KUSHIDA’s Last Match: KUSHIDA vs Hiroshi Tanahashi

Re: NJPW The New Beginnings Tour 2019

Tanahashi vs KUSHIDA was pretty awesome. The pre &post match stuff with the KUSHIDA cards and the crowd chanting "KUSHIDA" was pretty emotional, at least on my part. Glad to see the fans rally behind Kushida in his last match despite him not always getting the best reaction from crowds. The match itself was pretty very good. A good junior vs heavyweight exhibition, and a great send off for KUSHIDA. Gonna be a big miss in the Junior Division for sure.

White attacking Tanahashi after the match to great heat from the crowd. White is really coming along in his heel role.

I thought they were having a nice little match until Kushida got the knees up on the HFF and then it just took off into something great. A lovely send off, Tanahashi didn't have to have that competitive a match with Kushida, but he wanted to, what a selfless champ.

No Harlem Bravado? pffff, where's the authentic New Japan experience.

I'll be sure to check out the singles matches. Really hope Sanada continues to show that personality in his matches that he showed last year, I have higher hopes for that match than EVIL/ZSJ oddly.
