Scorpio Sky cut a pretty dope promo on Dark after his match. He's going to begin a singles run now, which'll be really cool to see. I think we're going to get Cody/Sky somewhere down the line and soon!

So Jericho and Fozzy just had an indoor maskless concert to a packed room last night...

I think he’s left Khan no choice, that outright deserves at least a 2 week suspension/quarantine. He may be their top draw but he’s just deliberately put the company at the risk to play some shitty music.

I just had a google and turns out Jericho is in the "COVID is a mass hysteria" camp. Woof. I think the Cassidy match is already taped atleast? If so, then definitely suspend/fine/quarantine the guy.

The Ayatollah of Rock and 'Rona.

It's incredibly stupid, wasn't Orange Cassidy Vs Jericho supposed to be this Wednesday? It's gonna be a very difficult PR week for them this week if they don't address this or try to get away with it saying he 'tested Negative' the day of tapings.

That's on the back of having another tough PR week this week with the AEW Heels fan club thing blow up in their face a bit and 'Chief Brand Officer' Brandi Rhodes deactivating twitter because she couldn't handle the criticism of it.

EDIT - Just seen Steve's post that the Orange match might have been taped. That's good, but how do you get away with airing that if you're gonna suspend him publicly and say he won't be at the arena for 2 weeks.

I wasn’t surprised by the backlash for AEW Heels. I remember Tony and JR plugging it during the last show and being kinda vague about what it was apart from aimed at female fans. And the name itself seems condescending and stereotypical, like it could’ve also been AEW Skirts.

Jericho being the veteran of the company should know better than to do something like this. I won't entirely blame him with the concert because there is obviously more at play but he should still be held responsible. I agree that AEW should set an example for all the wrestlers and fine or suspend him. Especially given the company's testing policy.

Been reading up on this. It was 4 shows, a mix of indoor and outdoor venues at 35%-50% capacity. Temperature checks taken and masks handed out upon entry. The states they happened in currently have low infection rates.

Nothing will come of it. This was all planned, I fail to believe AEW weren't aware these gigs were happening.

Personally I wouldn't have organised or gone to one of these shows, but it is what it is.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

At least one of those shows is a massive biker festival with people travelling from other states though. It's one thing for Jericho to go on about how this was his choice and the choices of the people who attended to take the risk, but if this week's Dynamite is live, do Orange Cassidy, Best Friends, the rest of the Inner Circle etc. have a choice? Would hope Jericho or AEW aren't putting the pressure on OC to delay a big match because of discomfort around Jericho's actions.

Gonna be very disappointed if Jericho is allowed to go on in the coming weeks. AEW's pandemic response has been really strong so far and this would be such a bad look.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

Jimmy Havoc, Bea Priestley and Sadie Gibbs have been removed from the roster page today on the AEW site, and Sadie has announced she's been released so fill in the blanks that that's the case with the other two. El Lindaman and T-Hawk of Stronghearts aren't listed either, but I'm not sure if they were ever on the roster page.

Havoc is self explanatory why he's been let go, but the suggestion with the girls is that they only signed 1 year deals, and because of COVID they can't get back into America anytime soon or for that matter get visa sorted. Sucks for Sadie especially who I remember reading an interview with at the top of the year where she was relocating to America because of her AEW contract. PAC is obviously a bigger star than these guys so I'd expect to see them wait the COVID situation out longer with him (and maybe he had a multi-year deal) but it's something to keep an eye on.

Makes me wonder if there's any more releases due, I think it's obvious that AEW have signed up a bigger roster than they actually need and can get away with shorter term deals for people and one off deals for their AEW Dark talent.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

Havoc will absolutely not be missed, he added absolutely nothing to the shows. Kip and Penelope must feel like they've really dodged a bullet there as well.

I was reading about how Bea is supposedly focusing on Stardom and how important she is for them or something. Idk I'm not too caught up on that scene or what goes on there. Sucks about Sadie, I still remember her original hype video, and I was honestly really interested in seeing how she performs.

Does their roster really feel that swamped to you Ed? I think they have just enough guys to do what they wanted to do. From what I recall, didn't they really want the ability to keep guys fresh and not have to worry about shoving everyone onto every episode of Dynamite.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

None surprise me. Bea was still very committed to Japan even when signed, and with herself (& Will) missing loads of time there right now, I fully expect it to be their biggest commitment once they can get back over there.

Sorta expecting Jimmy to show up in GCW in a few months.

The roster is just about coping right now, but there's still a number of prominent guys and girls who can't get on TV most weeks. What they have now is a decent number.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

I don't have an issue with people missing some weeks. For a couple of reasons. One reason being that Cody already stated that was their intent. And also, the amount of time between PPVs means they get to slow burn just about everything, and we don't necessarily need storyline development for every feud going on every week for three months or however long they have between PPVs. However, with that, there's no excuse for waiting until two weeks before the PPV to try to throw a match together, so they do need to make sure they don't do that.

Having said that though, they simply have to be better with the booking of the women. One match and one segment every week taking up a grand total of 5 minutes of air time just ain't cutting it, and it sends the message that they just don't care about the division. I would also like to see a tad more storyline development on Dark. They usually have a thing or two going on on there, but nothing major. I think they should definitely utilize that time to the best of their ability, and also be sure to mention what's happening on Dark, on Dynamite, so people who don't watch Dark aren't left to try to fill in the blanks when a story comes over from there.

T-Hawk and Lindamann were never on the roster page and were never signed. Hell, CIMA is still on the roster page but hasn't appeared in AEW since before they launched Dynamite.

I think running things like 8 man tags or even 12 man tags sort of shows they do shove as many people onto an episode of Dynamite from time to time. Just some stats here on their signed talent in regards to Dynamite matches:

Wardlow - no match for 6 weeks
Lance Archer - no match for 6 weeks
Joey Janela - no match for 6 weeks
Sonny Kiss - no match for 5 weeks
Private Party - no match in 6 weeks
Pentagon Jr - no match in 4 weeks
Kip Sabian - no match in 8 weeks
Daniels and Kaz - no match in 6 weeks
Eddie Kingston - 1 match in 4 weeks an no appearances since his signing
Ricky Starks - 1 match in 2 months since his signing
Jack Evans and Angelico - no match since February (they worked a dark match in July so it's not totally down to the pandemic)

Where you really see it is in PPVs. How many of the above are going to get a match at All Out, probably just Archer and it'll be a quick squash. Maybe Kingston if a late angle happens.

Now I get saying 'they want to keep everyone fresh' for people like Moxley MJF, Darby, the big singles stars etc, but I don't think that's the same case for people lower down the card. Another year into the future when some of the good will of this start up promotion fades away, if this pattern continues you're gonna get some frustrated roster members who aren't wrestling as much as they want to apart from quick matches on Dark that only a % of AEW fans are watching.

They have 58 male wrestlers on the roster that are signed, so that's the number not including the Cody challengers and Dark enhancement talent. For comparison, Raw and Smackdown's combined male roster is 68 wrestlers, but that's including long term injuries like Lars Sullivan and Xavier Woods or people removed from TV like the 3 Forgotten Sons boys. 58 wrestlers for 2 hours per week Vs 68 wrestlers for 5 hours per week, and WWE is the roster where wrestlers complain they aren't used enough. I think that's largely down to WWE being a bad company and having shite creative, but I do think there's a similar problem in AEW coming if they don't shrink their roster a little bit or get another show (which I do think is suppose to happen as part of their TNT deal)

If you look at the people removed from the roster yesterday, even before the pandemic they weren't getting much use out of Havoc, Bea, Sadie or the Stronghearts. You can say the same for the likes of Sonny Kiss, Joey Janela, Hybrid 2 etc. They just signed them and didn't know what to do with them.

That was a TL/DR version of saying it is not surprising to me to see Tony Khan trim the fat of his roster a little bit this week because I do believe they've got too large a roster for the amount of TV they produce. It's been a year of learning for him and I think they did sign up too many talents, some of which weren't good enough to put on TV.

Re: All Elite Wrestling Discussion Thread

Didn't they agree to bring a new show to TNT at some point earlier this year? I'm sure that's all been pushed back for now, but when that happens, assuming it still all goes to plan, that should help matters.

Though again, I'm in the camp of not seeing the large roster as a big issue at the moment. Although I get why the owner might feel the need to crop things down a little.
