    The Miz

I've been going back and forth about putting Miz forward for a few days now, and whilst it's still not totally settled in my head, I thought it would be best to throw his name out there anyway.

I'm looking at Miz to be on the lower end of the list and nothing more. He's been a pretty solid hand in between his movie stuff and has certainly come a long way during this time period.

Surely i'm not the only one thinking about Miz in this thing?
I have a plan so cunning......

Call me crazy but he’s absolutely in the top thirty five. He’s been in the hot seat since the Raw after Mania 32.

Great character who can have great matches but can also have some really bad matches. He's kinda like Rollins where he sometimes relies on the same formula in matches.

The only time WWE came close to a good story line post Attitude Era was Undertaker/Mordecai - Dakstang

    Re: The Miz

I don't see it. Long stretches of nothing of note, and being mediocre. He's a fine personality but as a wrestler I wouldn't put him top 100.

His best match is the fatal four way at Extreme Rules 2016 where he was by far the least important and contributed the least to the match. I get that that was the point, but I think you could substitute him for any competent wrestler and you wouldn't lose anything from the match. The Bryan match and Rollins stuff from this year were really good, and the Ziggler match at Backlash was a miracle. But generally he's a mediocre talent in a company stacked with very good wrestlers.

    Re: The Miz

I think he's a better candidate than Kevin Owens or Dean Ambrose. There's less of his stuff that sucks and he managed to rebuild the career of Dolph Ziggler to the point where fans were happy for him being IC champion and that's a more impressive feat than those two have (the WC feud of the year lest we forget). I thought the Bryan Summerslam match was terrific and then they dropped the ball by never giving us a conclusion. He was a lot of fun in the Mixed Match Challenge, generally he's a solid performer for WWE but there's only a few instances of him knocking it out of the park with a great match.

Top 50 in the world I think is going to be a real push when I think about it as much as I like Miz. If you're not a top 15 wrestler in all aspects of WWE (Main, NXT, NXTUK and 205 Live), then you probably won't make my top 50 globally, and I think Miz has too many gaps in between his hot programs to be in that top 15.

Had you not put him forward, I would.

Many people know that The Miz is my favourite current WWE wrestler - just a shame that he's let down with such awful booking. He's consistency personified. Look up the word "consistency" in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of him. He's also one of the most improved wrestlers of this decade for certain.

    Re: The Miz

Outside of Omega & Triple H, there's not a wrestler I'm less likely to put on my list than Miz. Watching him try to wrestle is almost never even close to good, & watching him try to strike borders on comical. His promos are fine for midcard comedy, but always come across like he's playing wrestler rather than being a believable character. I'm not a fan at all of his in-ring and can't imagine the kind of 2019 it would take to get him on my list.

It's close between Miz & Ambrose as to who's the worst thus far.

    Re: The Miz

I feel like some people are still of the mentality that Miz sucks just because that used to be the cool opinion. His ring work has come a long way, hes at the point where he can have a good match with an over the hill Jeff Hardy in 2018. That alone is pretty impressive.

I will ask though what is the definition of worker in this topic? Is it the modern day fan definition who only likes ring work, or a broader more encompassing definition of worker considering pro wrestling is about a lot more than just ring work?

Because Miz can go in the ring for sure, and hes the best promo guy in the world, and the best character worker in the world. Two really underrated but desperately needed traits in this era of bland wrestlers. Its just a shame WWE dont give a shit about him nor his talents on the mic. They'll give the worst mic workers of all time 10 minute promos every week and push them to the moon but Miz is just a comedy jobber, despite being one of their most consistent workers.

Though its off topic...Jay Briscoe destroys Miz on the mic.

Does Jay ever do anything besides the angry redneck spiel though? He seems like a guy trying WAAAAAY to hard to be edgy, a guy who has to make every second word a swearword to be cool and have impact. He's what an angsty 12 year old would do if they were a wrestler.

Jay Briscoe seems like realistic badass whereas Miz sounds like a guy acting

It's not fair to compare the two as characters, they're at such completely different ends of the spectrum

Alot of people in wrestling seem like they're acting though because that's just common knowledge nowadays that, infact, they are doing just that. It's weird to compare the two because they're quite different like Dave said.

I get this is about ringwork and Miz isn't going to put on match after match that gets tongues wagging but I do definitely think he plays his character well in and out of the ring for what it's worth. I would think at least keeping in line with logical character psychology in the ring should count for something. I'm not entirely sure he makes my top 50 though in all honesty. Match suggestions?

Disagree with any sentiment that Miz is best promo or character worker in the world though. Jericho, Tanahashi are just two names I can think of that are better than him in both IMO.

    Re: The Miz

    The Miz match recommendations are:

Vs Bryan from Summerslam this year
Vs Rollins from Backlash this year
    Vs Ziggler from Backlash 2016

Those are the three that stand out to me. The fatal four way from Extreme Rules 2016 is superb but I don't think it's an argument in favour of the Miz because he's certainly the weakest part of it.

Honestly I don't think there's any other matches I would use as an argument for Miz being a top worker. He's fine, but there's much better wrestlers and I won't be giving Miz much further thought in this.

I love the Miz. Easily one of the most entertaining guys every week no matter what. But I wouldn't consider him a great wrestler and I won't consider him for this.

I still find it weird/funny that being a good pro wrestler now is solely judged on ringwork.

Jay does a good impression of a hillbilly teenager trying to be tough I'll give him that. But again, he tries way to hard to be cool and edgy, that in turn he just comes off as a dork to me. Just because hes trying waaaay to hard.

Miz and Jay also do entirely different characters, Miz isnt trying to be a badass, hes a comedy jobber.

    Re: The Miz

Why are these things always about purely ringwork on WC? Its probably the least important part of pro wrestling in the grand scheme of things, great feuds and characters makes pro wrestling great no matter how badly modern fans want to deny it.
