So here's a look at some of the new rule changes they are planning on implementing, and to be honest, a few of them are pretty interesting.

Yep, that was a big point I've been driving home.

NFL...CFL..AAF..Arena league..All have the better picks then them.

This is going to be potentially (And likely) those who couldn't cut it in those places, and a mix of has beens trying to sell on name value as former NFL players, etc.

Can't wait to see Brett Favre come out at 60 saying he's still got it.

If things don't improve in the CFL for Manziel in the next two seasons, maybe he'll head to the XFL?

Reportedly, he doesn't have interest, and is instead very focused on CFL.

    Re: The XFL Discussion Thread

I think the XFL is making huge mistake in the direction they're going.

Everyone has frustrations with the NFL right now. With the direction they've taken things. Strict rules and officiating, making things too soft as far as tackles and hits go.

Yet the XFL has made a stance where they're going even further the other direction, and going all hoo rah for safety.

I think from a marketing standpoint, it's a bad move. If they were advertising it as good old fashioned football, the football we fell in love with, the old NFL...I'd watch it.

But right now it sounds like it's going to be the same old issues the NFL is dealing us, but worse.

    Interesting video

The clock not stopping after incomplete passes, will surely shorten the length of the game, but It may actually shorten it too much

The extra point system is unique

I think in The AAF they are dong away with the kicking game entirely

    ************

I just worry that if after a few weeks ratings, attendance isn't what they hoped for that they will revert to the old XFL and start inserting storylines and feuds which was just dumb

The more I read about this, the less appealing it sounds to me. And also, the less I think it will last for very long.

The XFL doesn't stand for anything, OMB. It's like WWE now where the initials don't stand for anything.

USFL was succeeding before they got only 3 dollars in restitution for the antitrust lawsuit. Had the lawsuit not happened, they would still be around, because even players like Hershel Walker wanted to play there.

The CFL continues to be successful even if not a true offshoot of the NFL, both are formed from Rugby.

Arena Football still is standing and is actually doing alright for itself.

Also, the AFL didn't fail. It merged with the NFL. In fact, the AFL was outdoing the NFL in profit several times over and was generally a better league. Had the two leagues not merged, it would have become something akin to the American League and National League in MLB. The two aren't merged, but have a longstanding working relationship with one another.

Is it really? They went from almost 20 teams around the early 2000's to four teams now. Four.

    There are multiple arena leagues.

AFL is not the only arena league. There is also IFL, CIF, NAL, and AAL. A total of 34 teams between them.

I'm aware, I assumed he was talking about the only one that had even a moderate degree of large-term success.

Best I can tell the IFL is probably the most successful of them now but it's still not really a vision of stability. I disagree with the premise that it's impossible to compete with the NFL but I wouldn't say Arena League ball is doing particularly well at the moment.
