I was, but I also didn't realize they were still undefeated!

I haven't been paying much attention, admittedly.

That ending of that game was really embarrassing.

QB change has been good for the Dragons. The offense was pretty dead in the second half but at least they've pushed the two best teams in the league in back to back weeks.

In other news, the Guardians actually look like a football team since they put in their new QB.

    Re: The XFL Discussion Thread

The ending to the game was just goofy. The explanation of (well we said it was over so there's nothing we can do" was totally horseshit. This league, THIS league can't afford black eyes like that. Even one is going to have people circling the waters like sharks to attack the entire league as a clown show.
And just as a fan of football I think we can all agree: That sucked.

It's no surprise that NY is better, Mcgloin always sucked. Perez was pretty good in AAF and obviously is looking good now. They're on the right track.

The XFL's season is officially suspended. Supposedly, they will be back in 2021.

The XFL suspended all operations yesterday, laid off their employees and now currently have no plans for the 2021 season. If this is the end, it'll have lasted even less time than it did on the first attempt. Obviously there's a major mitigating factor there, but it's still pretty bizarre.

That really sucks. The league wasn't perfect but the games were entertaining and it filled a little bit of the football void.

    Re: The XFL Discussion Thread

Nothing they could have done to prepare for this. Surely there's a ton of lost revenue from suspending the league and unlike the big boys like the NBA, NHL, or MLB, the XFL surely just doesn't have the financial cushion to fall back on to stay afloat. I imagine their business plan was to be sustainable going forward as long as you had a full season of attendance and TV money but that's a lot of money lost fast. Just a victim of circumstance this time.

It was a fun alternative and I hope the NFL takes a few notes from the way it did things.

I'm disappointed. I enjoyed the XFL this season and thought it'd be here a few more years. Wish this wasn't true, but oh well.

Granted, I wouldn't have predicted a major pandemic as being the reason for the XFL's demise, but my post from two months ago was kind of proven right.

I never got a chance to catch any of the games but was proud that the Houston team seemed to be kicking some ass. I eventually would have gotten into it had I figured out what channel/website to watch the games on and also these leagues should wait until like March or April to even start their seasons, February is too soon I'm fucking fatigued from football by then it's like I need a break. By the time the draft comes and goes though I'm jonesing and needing a fix, I feel like that would be the ideal time to start a season and wrap it up by early Summer with the Championship Game taking place right before NFL training camp starts. That little period there between the NFL draft and training camp seems like the sweet spot to me, there is literally NOTHING to talk about going on in the NFL during that time that seems like the time when I need some football the most.

And I think at the end of the day the structure where one single entity owns and operates all the teams within a startup league is always destined to fail. You got to look back at the AFL in the 1960's a startup league that was built from scratch and went HEAD TO HEAD in the Fall with the established NFL, which at that time was a 50 year old league that had a monopoly on the business. The AFL worked because instead of 1 Vince Mcmahon owning 8 teams the AFL was essentially 8 Vince Mcmahons working together. Each of those 8 owners put everything they had into their teams, they were each tuned into their home markets and what their fans wanted. Whenever one would get weak and start to run out of money the other 7 would bail them out.

Another thing that these leagues could learn from the AFL's success in the 60's was the brands. These lame ass teams and brands that the AAF and XFL came up with I mean c'mon, the AFL had the fucking Raiders, The Chiefs, the Oilers I mean these were iconic brands/logos/names/team colors. This podunk Wal Mart shit that the AAF and XFL came up with that looks like MS Paint jobs was always going to fail fast. I guess the Roughnecks was a cool homage to the Oilers but I got a kick out of how they hype up Roughnecks like they are the toughest workers in the promo videos, all they really do all day is push buttons and whirl chains around, I've had oil rig workers come out and help me frame houses and they all wilted like pussies.

It really puts it into perspective just how amazing the AFL was when you look at how bad and how fast these leagues failed, the USFL, the XFL twice, the AAF and these leagues didn't even go head to head they played in the Spring, the AFL went head to head and took the NFL head on in the Fall and these owners were poaching talent and stealing top draft picks and eventually forced their hand to merge with them and play a head to head game between the 2 league Champions, it's pretty amazing what they were able to accomplish looking back at it now. If you were going to try to start a new football league the model is right there for how to do it.

    Re: The XFL Discussion Thread

I've never been a sports guy, truth be told. I do enjoy boxing, kickboxing, martial arts, etc. But, I had high hopes for XFL to be something I could maybe get into...something more mainstream. Give the whole fooseball thing a shot. So, seeing that it's over again (just like that)...it's kind of a bummer. Especially when the truth is, it was really no fault of the company or the management.

One thing I'll be watching for at this point, is whether Vince gets taken to court for using WWE assets. It would be wild if WWE took yet another hit during all of this.

    *Update April 21:

As expected, Oliver Luck is trying to sue Vince.

In case you guys aren't aware: The rumor is going around that Vince deliberately made the XFL go bankrupt and is buying it back to lessen the amount they would have had to pay if they kept in operation in 2020 supposedly.

So **really** shady business going on behind the scenes especially considering what happened with Oliver Luck.

It's Vince, who is pretty much full on crony and a close friend of Trumps.

I'd not be shocked in the slightest.
