    Mars Stadium
    Western Bulldogs vs. Gold Coast

    WB G1 B6 12 G2 B10 22 G3 B15 33 G8 B17 65
    GC G3 B5 23 G5 B11 41 G11 B13 79 G16 B18 114

This was as simple as could be, the Western Bulldogs are last on the ladder whilst Gold Coast are well and truly in the hunt for the top four. The Bulldogs showed promising signs in the early stages with inaccuracy costing them, so even in a competitive first quarter, Gold Coast managed to have a 2 goal lead at quarter time. From there, the margin just got bigger and bigger with Gold Coast taking control. Aaron Hall and David Swallow were both terrific for Gold Coast whilst Lachie Hunter and Jack McRae got heaps of the ball for the Bulldogs, but it wasn’t enough to get them over the line.

    Melbourne Cricket Ground
    Essendon vs. Hawthorn

    Ess G5 B4 34 G10 B9 69 G16 B11 107 G20 B16 136
    Haw G6 B3 39 G11 B9 75 G16 B11 107 G21 B16 142

Two teams in different form met in this one with Essendon on the negative side of the win loss record, and Hawthorn being on top of the ladder.. Surprisingly, these two teams put on the game of the season, as it was high scoring; free flowing footy at its absolute best. At three quarter time the scores were level, until Hawthorn was able to take the win by 1 goal in the last quarter. Both teams’ had stand out players with Dyson Heppell for Essendon and Tom Mitchell for Hawthorn.

    Optus Stadium
    West Coast vs. Port Adelaide

    WCE G2 B6 18 G7 B10 52 G13 B15 93 G17 B20 122
    Port G2 B2 14 G3 B5 23 G7 B8 50 G11 B9 75

There was only one game separating these teams heading into the round, so it was considered a big match. If West Coast wins it consolidates their top four hopes and separates themselves from the rest of the pack, whereas if Port wins, they become a bigger part of that top eight conversation. In the end, with the home ground advantage in full swing, West Coast blew Port off of the park, winning quite easily in the end. Up front for West Coast, Jack Darling was a star, kicking 5 goals, whilst Robbie Gray tried really hard for Port Adelaide.

    Sydney Cricket Ground
    Sydney vs. North Melbourne

    Syd G1 B5 11 G4 B7 31 G10 B8 68 G13 B14 92
    North G5 B6 36 G7 B12 54 G8 B13 61 G11 B18 84

North Melbourne have been pretty lacklustre as expected so far this season, whilst Sydney continues to do what Sydney does every year. They don’t look overly convincing but they just keep finding a way to get the job done. That is exactly what happened here as North Melbourne jumped out of the blocks, dominating the first half and holding the 23 point lead at half time. Sydney fought their way back into the contest, gaining the lead by three quarter time, and they grinded out the match in ugly fashion in the last to win by 8 points. Sydney have plenty of work to do but as is nearly always the case this year, in a close game they find a way to win. They had a nice even performance whilst Shaun Higgins for North Melbourne was fantastic.

    Adelaide Oval
    Adelaide vs. Carlton

    Adel G5 B4 34 G11 B7 73 G12 B8 80 G18 B10 118
    Carl G3 B2 20 G4 B8 32 G10 B12 72 G16 B16 112

A lot of people thought playing a team like Carlton, who are expected to finish near the bottom of the ladder, is exactly what Adelaide needed to dominate and find their game style. In the first half, it looked like that was the case as Adelaide looked like the team who made the grand final last year, taking a 39 point lead into half time. Carlton came out after half time refreshed though and took Adelaide to the line, and in the end, Adelaide just held on to win by 1 goal. Rory Sloane was Adelaide’s best player whilst captain and vice captain, Marc Murphy and Patrick Cripps were good for Carlton.
