Davis now gets to wash his hands of any responsibility while taking media paydays to explain what's gone wrong with Brexit and May's handling of it.

The tories are an absolute shambles, it's been nice to escape from politics this last month with the WC on, but that's coming to a close soon. May is such a terrible PM.

Oh and lets not forget, Trump's visit is this week.

And the worst thing is she's not even the worst PM of the last 5 years.

Boris Johnson has resigned too now.

I've said this countless times this last year, but surely May's position is untenable. I don't think she'll last the week.

Theresa May must feel like the loneliest person in the world right now. In a no win situation regarding Brexit. Hated by her opponents, hated by her own party, no support from the EU, no support from the States, and now Murdoch's media has properly turned on her.

Almost makes me feel sorry for the incompetent hag.

But she's spineless and despite Trump's comments to the press during his visit she'll suck up to him instead of standing up to him.

It's hard to believe she's still potentially gonna be there for another 3 years, but I can see her being stubborn enough to see it through. Mock Trump all we want, at least he has some supporters and allies.

The funny thing is I actually like Theresa May. Her emotional intelligence is probably in the negatives -- like if you said she was on the spectrum, I wouldn't be shocked -- but what she says, I for the most part, agree with.

I don't like her, I think she's way out of her depth and is being used as a fall guy for everything awful that's happening.

I do feel sorry for her though. I don't think anyone could succeed with the shit hand she's been dealt.

My respect for her will go way up if she stands up to Trump and his blatant disrespect and thinly veiled sexism.

Some fairly big news today that the first Tory MP had backed calls for the People's Vote on Brexit.

Fantastic news, it's the only reasonable solution to this mess. If the government can't decide how to handle brexit, let us.

I think it's dreadful what she's proposing. It's not a referendum, it's a vote between Chequers deal, leave EU with no deal, or remain in the EU which because you're splitting the leavers votes with two options it's an absolute guarantee remain would win. It probably wouldn't come to this because I think the nation has shifted to a slight majority for remain, but imagine the chaos if the sum of the two leave options is higher than remain, but remain win because their individual tally is higher. That would cause even more unrest and divide in the country.

I disagree with the notion of a 2nd ref in any sense, but if you're having one, it at least needs to be one that's fair and definite.

Think she proposed it as some kind of Alternative Vote where you ranked your preferences from 1-3 and go from there. So if you picked your options like this:

    1- No Deal Brexit
    2- Chequers Brexit
    3- Stay in EU

And No Deal Brexit came last in the vote, your vote for Chequers Brexit would be counted as your main preference.

Alex Salmond's been accused of sexual assault.

    And he's counter suing, basically.

Re: The UK and Ireland Politics Thread

It's been coming for a while but today has all but confirmed it'll be a no deal Brexit. May has doubled down on her unworkable Chequers plan and EU have said, as they had since it was first suggested, that it isn't going to happen.

This is the biggest issue facing our country in a generation and we have possibly the most inept government in charge of handling it. May is completely out of her depth and her party can't even agree on anything.

The only logical thing to do would be to postpone Brexit and work out a plan before we leave because right now we're set to leave without any sort of idea.

I'm still expecting a second referendum to come out of this whole no brexit thing. We are going to be losing so much from leaving the EU and at the moment this inept government...who can't control anything on their own turf, let alone on a wider scale are going to kill us in the short term post brexit.
I have a plan so cunning......

Can't believe May is making demands of the EU. They don't have to do shit.

Just curious...how many of you are against brexit?

And what sort of retaliation do you see from the rest of the EU?

i also find it funny May is using Justin Trudeaus.."No deal is better than a bad deal"
