the fact Emerys preferred 4-3-3 flex fits relatively well with the players Arsenal currently have was probably a factor (hurd there aint much of a budget this summer lulz). hopefully, not Krychowiak, but I have a feeling a regista-type DM will be brought in at the expense of one of Arsenals current midfielders because nobody on the current Arsenal team looks like they can play that role and im already having nightmares about Xhaka playing there.... god pls no...

Re: The Grande Arsenal Manager Search 2018 Thread

Well that came out of nowhere. This was an unexpected move by the board. Very happy with the appointment of Unai Emery, granted he’s not a top tier manager like Allegri or Simeone but we were never going to get them. Emery was never in my top 10 wish list but he did make my top 20 list. I prefer this appointment to Arteta. At least Emery has experience at the top level, he’s young(46) and he’s won some trophies. Arsene Wenger was also 46 when he joined Arsenal almost 22 years ago. I had already accepted Arteta as our next coach. I’m just so relieved it isn’t him. Too much of a gamble. He should have never been considered. Just couldn’t get excited about Arteta because he’s just not managed before. Would still back him if he came in but best of luck to him in the future. I'd have taken almost any top manager over Arteta/any rookie manager.

Emery’s a good manager. He’s a Europa specialist, won 3 consecutive EL with Sevilla. He seems to work better without the big superstars and not too high expectations. At PSG, he had the resources, won the treble this season but the job was a bit out of his depth. Then again PSG had massive expectations so let's see if Tuchell can deliver them the CL next season. Emery would be a good fit for Arsenal as we're more his level. He'll improve as a manager and he can take us in a new direction. He’s agreed to work with a tight budget(rumours are £50m plus sales to reshape the squad) & strict control from the board. He knows how to work with limited budgets. Even with the budget constraints, hopefully we bring in some good players to improve the squad. I think he won’t do any worse than the last 2 years of Wenger which were the worst two seasons in the Wenger era. Hope the club announce this asap so we can get some transfers done before the World Cup.

Emery has my full support but I think he’s a stop gap manager. Give him time and hopefully he'll do a good job rebuilding Arsenal. We're not going to be winning the title for 3-4 seasons. It will take time. My expectations won’t be high but it would be great if Emery gets Arsenal back into the top 4. Now with our limited budget, it will be difficult to crack the top 4 but it can be done. The Europa League is probably our best bet as Emery has great experience in that competition. Would prefer us not to just rely on Europa, we have to do better in the league. Hopefully Emery will be announced in the next couple of days, and then get some transfers done before the WC.
