    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

Thoughts from the last few weeks as I watch this weeks:

    - Love the ATT and Team Filthy alliance. Makes perfect sense, yet I didn't think they'd go there due to Mo and Lawlor being such large personalities. Adding Dan Lambert to the fray just makes the group even more hateable

    - Lindemann/Zenshi match last week was good

    - Guess MJF is finely done next week. Ironically, an empty arena match too

    - Really getting into this Injustice/Pillman angle

    - If you needed one excuse to watch this company, LA Park now has his own cooking show. No, seriously.

EDIT: just watched T-Hawk vs. Hammerstone, that was a surprise belter!

Another fun show this week. Both matched were short but good, best Douglas James has looked since coming in, MJF cut a killer promo before putting over Mance on the way out. Thank goodness we still have the MLW vs. AAA show to keep the new content going on.

The AAA/MLW showdown was a mixed bag for me

My favorite. Mance Warner, was in a pretty bad hardcore tag.

Hammerstone vs. Laerdo Kid was good

Holliday has positioned himself well as the lead mouth in The Dynasty (with Hammerstone providing decent comic relief)

Injustice is growing on me. They are a little over the top, but these guys are buying in. They are sort of the anti-NewDay

The tag was awful. The idea of Pagano coming in full time after that doesn't sit well with me.

The Hammerstone/Laredo match was disappointing too. Both had great matches at the last taping so I expected more from this.

Glad they're sticking to the two match format for now to save content for longer, but they need to shave about 5-10 mins off the show as there was a solid 20 min chunk of not a lot happening in the middle.

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

I watched the MLW vs AAA series.

I normally really enjoy MLW but this was a bit messy and sloppy to me.

Tag match was really all kinds of bad, it felt like four wrestlers just doing stuff out of the 'hardcore playbook' then actually having a wrestling match.

Hammerstone vs Laredo Kid I thought was going to low-key bang but again, disappointing. Just didn't really gel for me.

Trying to think what else was on the show?

Konnan & Injustice promo, nah, not for me.

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

The second ep in the MLW/AAA series isn't great either. I don't watch MLW for workrate, but there's something about this environment that isn't clicking at all. Warner/Hammerstone stuff was the highlight overall.

Think we've got two weeks of fresh content left, after that it's gonna be the archives for the time being. Shame as the tentative PPV/next taping card their building looks promising. A PPV of:

    Spoiler:

MLW Title: Jacob Fatu (c) vs. Davey Boy Smith Jr.
MLW Tag Titles: Von Erich's (c) vs. Team Filthy
MLW Jr. Title: Myron Reed (c) vs. Brian Pillman Jr.
MLW National OW Title: Alexander Hammerstone (c) vs. Mance Warner

All well built title matches so far

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

I'm watching the AAA stuff now. I've always had this MLW viewing schedule where I save about 4 or 5 episodes and then binge them all at once...so, I haven't been watching since the virus started. It's strange...but, definitely refreshing to get some wrestling with a live crowd. I can understand why some people are sour on these Tijuana shows...but, I've been enjoying them just for what they are.

I'm interested to see what this post-Covid "virtual production" (announced by Court Bauer on twitter) is going to be. Hoping for no major hiccups in the continued support for this brand. MLW has grown to be one of my favorites over time, and I'd hate this see it struggle because of what's going on in the world, at no fault of their own.

Honestly, if these tapings have achieved one thing, it's killing any interest I'd ever have in watching AAA.

The Los Parks cooking segment was fucking phenomenal

The 6-man tag with Injustice was painful to watch. I understand this is a place for these guys to grow, but they didn't mesh well at all. Jordan Oliver struggled heavily and so did Sin Cara 2.0 ... would've fooled me if someone told me it was him.

I watch for The Dynasty and the Hart Foundation. Gosh I love 'em. Obviously with MJF outta the picture, Holladay and Hammerstone are growing into their own.

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

AAA has never been my cup of tea. I've tried to watch it a few times in the past...and it does feel like they "don't give a damn" half the time. I mean...it's very easy to watch AAA with twitch or youtube. It's not a hard thing to keep up with. But, I do agree...it isn't really something that I can bring myself to care about. Especially now, when a lot of the top AAA stars are crossing over and having matches for promotions like MLW, or wherever. It's not as if the only place to see these guys is AAA...so there isn't much of a draw to watching the AAA solo events. Even watching Triplemania in past years has left me underwhelmed.

I love the core MLW roster. The faces are guys you can genuinely root for, and all the heels are despicable with no redeeming features. There's no shades of grey or cool heels, the lines are clear.

As a comparison, the ROH roster is more talented, but I'm way more invested in what the MLW roster do.

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

Haven't watched RoH in ages. I agree about the RoH roster being more talented on paper...but, I feel like MLW just "gets it" as a promotion. The fact that they've managed to stick around since the dying days of WCW and ECW just goes to show that they're doing something right. Largely operating in the shadows and being relatively unknown for as long as they have been, yet booking some of the top names...and always having top-notch production. I think MLW probably has the single greatest ability to evolve and adapt out of any wrestling promotion, past or present. They always know what they should be doing with the talents they have. Even when they lose top names, it rarely affects them (if at all)...because they've already shifted to making new stars. And they always present every member of their roster as top-stars. No one ever comes off as more or less valuable than anyone else. The booking is always right where it needs to be. I mean...just look at the MJF situation. I can't say I've even missed him...because, they've booked that transition so smoothly. MJF is gone? Hammerstone was already groomed well in advance to fill the spot. It was never a problem.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they weren't operating between 2004 and 2017.

Lol...well, that would explain a thing or two. Still...they've done well to be relevant when it matters.

Shitty lucha wrestling aside, I really liked how MLW closed out this episode with Contra taking over MLW. Great little cliffhanger to leave the show on whilst the company cannot tape.

Agreed. The action was lacking, but CONTRA may be my favorite heel faction in any promotion

    Re: MLW Discussion Thread

Both Richard Holliday & Alex Hammerstone have signed new contracts with MLW.

Great sign for the company to be able to hold onto talent. Holliday is nothing special in ring but can talk, Hammerstone is the big get though. In different times I could have seen him entertaining an indy free agent period, but guaranteed money is everything these days.

Speaking of, Bauer says a major deal has been signed, Meltz reckons it's a significant streaming deal. So good news all around for the company.
