Boom! Natty nailed the description, I think. Its a combination of the storytelling and sense of wonder from Spielberg combined with the creepiness of Stephen King. Only halfway through but totally digging it.

    Re: Stranger Things (Netflix) Discussion

finished this in two days with the wife. Literally the quickest show to watch.

Some spoilers so read at your own risk:

Hoppers character was very much like Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Given's in FX's Justified. Badass, with a soft side, and a killer backstory. Harbour did a great job and I was invested in him from the opening seconds. I like the love story dynamics of Steve-Nancy-Jonathan and Mike-Eleven. It was also kept minimal enough that it didn't feel like it got in the way of the real story. In a story that really spread itself thin with characters involved in the main plot, I felt like the end really tied ends together nicely.

I really like the (I think it was) second to last scene where the boys finish the second big D&D campaign. When Mike ends the story to make Will be the hero, everyone complains that there were so many unanswered questions. Mike just kind of shrugs this off as "yeah? so!?" It was almost exactly how I reacted to the wife's questions of "what about Barb? what about the other missing people? what happened between Steve-Tommy-Carol? Why did the school never ask like "uh what the fucking fuck happened here guys?! What happened during Hoppers meeting with the Energy Department? etc. etc. etc." because the truth is.... it really doesn't matter.

Last scene might have been my favorite. Hopper going out into the woods and leaving food and eggos opens a lot of doors for future episodes and asks the question that my wife was adamant about, "They wouldn't really kill of Eleven, would they?"

Overall, this was my favorite show since Justified ended. hopefully the second season gets green lit soon, because the Duffer Brothers are gunna have a hell of a time living up to the standard they set here.

Side-note: I can't remember many TV characters being so hated and doing a 180 in a matter of 3 minutes of screentime as Steve did in episode 7.

    Just finished this, binged watched all 8 episodes;

    Spoiler:

I like all the little sci fi nods in the film, the Silent Hill style 2nd world, the Alien style eggs and in a way face hugger and just everything about it. I don't tend to watch a whole lot of TV but this has been really good, can't wait for the 2nd season.

Just binged this in two days, and came away loving it. All the kids were fun to watch, and Winona Ryder proves yet again how great she is.

I'm really hoping we get a second season, and with the hype I don't see how we can't.

I love the retro feel to it, and the pacing was perfect.

Absolutely elated that there will be a second season. I watched it over the last weekend and I became instantly hooked after the first episode. I love everything about it, especially the music, which is top notch.

But seriously, I love that not only do we have confirmation of the second season we also now know the episode titles for each episode and that we're getting a ninth episode this season. Wonderful stuff. Ridiculously happy about this.

    Spoiler:

Am I the only person that is baffled by this whole "What about Barb?" thing? She looked dead to me and when asked about her El pretty much just shook her head like, "She's dead", so my answer to the "What about Barb?" people is, "Barb's dead".

    Spoiler:

yeah she's dead, people just make fun of it because they felt like the characters didn't even give a shit or that the town didn't seem to care. the show only takes place over a few days so they probably didn't even know yet tbh.

    Spoiler:

That was my interpretation of it too. I mean, yeah, it sucked that a character with so much potential got killed off with very little reaction from the rest of the group but they were all kinda busy trying to not die themselves... I expect that Nancy (at the very least) will show some signs of mourning in season two, even if it is the following year; visiting her grave or whatever. People need to chill on that shit as far as I'm concerned.

That mere glimpse of the red shit... amazing. Getting awesome The Mist vibes. Sucks that it's so far away, and it's a hell of a first season to live up to, but I think this is probably the most I'm looking forward to anything this year unless Tarantino announces a new project out of the blue.
