Re: The Totally Random Movie Discussion Thread

Watched The Social Dilemma last night and it's stayed with me for most the day and made me think about my own habits and how addicted I can be to my phone. I know I'm not nearly as addicted as some people and twitter is really the only social media I use, but I know that when I sit down to watch TV on my own, I'm not really watching TV, I'm half watching that and half scrolling through twitter on my phone and I can get easily distracted with notifications. I can't imagine how worrying this must be for parents of kids that have never known a life without smartphones and social media given the links to addiction, depression, self-harm, suicide etc.

I know the film was from an American POV when it came to things like politics, but on the point facebook news feeds dividing people and becoming tribal and not willing to anyone else's side, that really hit home the last 4-5 years of Brexit debate in the UK.

Thinking of experimenting with no social media in October and seeing how much difference that makes in my life. I'm probably going to turn off all notifications other than whatsapp later today as a start.

Watched Moneyball today. I've always wanted to watch it since I really dig that sport philosophy and love sports management games of all sorts. Probably out of bias, I definitely dug it. I think I would've even considered it for Fav of the Decade if I had watched it at the time.

Followed it up with The Big Short. That movie is pretty depressing

I love both movies with the edge to Big Short. Just started reading Moneyball FWIW, think it's my 4th Michael Lewis book at this point.
