    Re: NFL Offseason Discussion

Apparently Spanos isn't interested in bringing in Andy Reid. Thank God.

My short list of hopefuls for the Chargers are as follows.

    1. Jon Gruden
    2. David Shaw
    3. Bill O'Brien
    4. Bill Cowher

Anyone else and I think I'll be disappointed. I wouldn't mind Chip Kelly, but he wouldn't fit the Chargers personnel at all. We have virtually zero speed. And yes, I know Shaw was just signed to an extension. Doesn't mean there wasn't and opt out option for an NFL job. I can hope. Shut up.

You want team killer Jon Gruden? Why? His one super bowl win? Look at that Bucs team in every successive year, it got worse. Bad draft picks, overpaid players, etc. Gruden is overrated imo.

Also, Cardinals fire the entire offensive staff, no word on defensive staff.
For Zero: Ron Rivera is meeting with Jerry Richardson to discuss his future.

One Super Bowl ring, versus multiple titles..making more money, he's one of the huge reasons why the Eagles were able to get the Novacare Complex for the Players. As for the Eagles, I hope they bring in someone in with experience and will make an impact from day one.I don't want some John Doe Cordinator who Lurie fires within two years because the fan base doesn't wanna wait half a decade for something to happen.

    Re: NFL Offseason Discussion

He turned around a 4-12 Raider team and built them up and should have taken them to the Super Bowl there had it not been for a stupid rule. Sure he had a couple down years after winning the Super Bowl IN HIS FIRST YEAR, then won a couple more division titles after that before going 9-7 in his last year after he started that year 9-3. He's a tough, in your face guy and that's what San Diego needs. Not someone who just sits back and doesn't do anything. Gruden is the embodiment of someone who doesn't take crap and gets shit done. Same goes with Cowher.

    Re: NFL Offseason Discussion

Rather have a Coach that has been consistent over the years like Cowher or Lovie Smith than a one hit wonder on Gruden.Speaking about these coaches like Cowher and Gruden, I mean these guys do analyst work on TV, it would have to be the perfect fit for them to sign with a team anyways.Fools dreams for now lol.

Gruden really isn't a one-hit wonder, but those Bucs teams should've been so much better than what they were.

To be fair, Tony Dungy was the one who turned Tampa into a contender. If the front office had just patient, they probably would of won a SB with Dungy.

Dang Devin Hester taking it hard with Lovie Smith's being fired, I guess he will be taking his talens elsewhere next season or retiring from how he was talking in an interview.

    Re: NFL Offseason Discussion

It's hard to say what to want in a new coach. And as much as I loathe some of the bad decisions and offensive ineptitude in general, I don't particularly enjoy calling for a guy's job. And in terms of defensive Xs and Os, he's actually pretty good and probably should be a DC somewhere. But a head coach needs more than that, and I assure you does not have it. We'll see what happens with him though.

As far as coaches in general, Gruden gets a lot of love because he's a charismatic guy, moreso than any specific coaching skills. He embodies how the fans react when something good/bad happens, and everyone wants that. To me though, there's so much that goes into coaching "behind closed doors" that it's virtually impossible to pick out the truly great coaches, so yeah, we'll see where all this goes for everybody.

The Jaguars should hire Urban Meyer imo.
That we met here is a miracle...

    Re: NFL Offseason Discussion

A few names that I've heard today were Brian Kelly by John Clayton on Mike & Mike and Mike Holmgren on the ESPN bottom line. Both are very interesting names for obvious reasons. Regarding other coaches mentioned, I like Gruden better than most. I don't think Bill O'Brien is leaving Penn St. I feel bad for Peep Show because of what his Chargers are doing. I also think Doug Marrone will be the most successful of the new hires(if he is hired) in the near future.

Also, does anyone else think it'd be fun to see what Chip Kelly can do in Carolina?

Brian Kelly isn't going anywhere. At least not this year.

And yeah, I do think Carolina would fit him best if Rivera does get canned. Philly wouldn't be bad though.

I don't think he will either. I just thought it was very interesting his name would even be thrown out there. Kyle Shanahan and Mike McCoy are interesting names also. Two really good offensive minds.

Don't start with Kyle, I heard the announcers talking about that during the game on Sunday. However, I don't know if I quite see Kyle leaving while he's working with his dad and RG3.
