Is this right that Go and Fujita had a match in front of no fans where they stared each other down for 30 minutes before making contact? or are they exaggerating on the VOW flagship? That sounds absolutely horrendous if true.

I think it was 32 minutes in total. I thought it was very good myself. There was something oddly intresting at seeing the two stare at each other for that period of time. It's probably the best half of the match too.

Haven't watched it, but the first 16 minutes apparently they don't even move. Then Fujita walks from one corner to another.

Apparently they did something similar in a tag match earlier in the year for like 15 minutes also.

No, I'm not really sure why either.

Comes off like people are clutching at straws for some wrestling to praise at the moment for a match that has staring as it's main selling point to be talked up like this.

Agreed, how little else do you have to do to sit through that and not fast forward

I think people grossly exaggerated their "5 star" claims for it. But I thought it worked for the most part. It's not something you can ever do again though.

Re: The Official Puro Discussion Thread

It's just disingenuous people trolling and trying to seem smarter than others by liking it. It objectively sucked to start off with 30 minutes of not moving, however from a booking perspective it was smart because it got people talking about it and Fujita vs Go in a main event wasn't going to be a big draw or talking point outside of a certain niche and ultimately it got more famous than it ever would have as a real match. I look at it as a publicity stunt more than a match, though by the end some stuff was actually good and liking the second half is much more understandable. No justification for the first half however.

Also I think they should have went all the way with it and just went the full 60 draw instead of ending it 2 minutes short for hilarity's sake.

NOAH and DDT merge on the 1st September to become CyberFight.

Whilest I am sure some will be excited by this news, I can't help but feel a sadness of how far NOAH has fallen from their glory days. They were at one point the premier promotion in Japan, maybe the world, and for years they have now been a sub-TNA level fed.

It is a bit of sad news, if for nothing else than it's the final connection to Misawa essentially being severed after already changing its logo and ditching the green theme last year.

It still sounds as if NOAH and DDT will be their own brands so it's not like NOAH isn't going to exist anymore.

It is sad they couldn't stand on their own legs anymore, but 20 years is still a strong run for a Japanese promotion not called AJPW or NJPW.

It's really not that serious. This whole things is behind the scenes business streamlining so they had an excuse to fire some people in the middle of a pandemic, nothing's changing otherwise. As far as not standing on their own, it's not anyone who has "stood on their own" for a long long time now. NJPW is also owned by a huge company as well, guys.

Plus if they were gonna combine it's much more likely DDT would take the fall name-wise than NOAH.

Merging NOAH, DDT and the other wrestling related brands into one subsidiary is logical and much more effective for Cyber Agent. DDT and NOAH were sharing Sanshiro Takagi as president anyway so it works for everyone.

BJW's 10/8 Korakuen show is gonna be headlined by Sekimoto & Sato vs Nomura & Abe. The first match in Japan since COVID hit that I'm actually excited for.

Finally got around to seeing the Carnival final between Miyahara and Zeus. Loved it. By all accounts not a good tournament but they finished strong. Better final than the N1 for me even if that tournament was apparently much better than the Carnival.

Zeus already losing to Suwama though is disappointing.

Re: The Official Puro Discussion Thread

The tournament being so bad and Zeus losing so quick takes a lot of luster off it, but it was a great match and clearly the best of the tournament. I think Kento vs. Yuma Aoyagi was my only other recommended match of the whole tournament and the rest is wholly skippable.

The NOAH tournament was much much better and I enjoyed the final, but it definitely wasn't as good as the CC final nor was it the best match of the tournament itself. I enjoyed Go vs. Kaito & Go vs. Sakuraba the most but there was a lot of good matches to watch actually. I also enjoyed the booking of various people including Kenoh, getting away from his horrible character work to give him a different finish gimmick and watching it in real time I really enjoyed how they made each person feel like they could win in different ways. I also think the booking of the final was extremely well done as both men had a great and logical run to be believable winners and challenge Go.
