    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Arsenal leave it till the last day of the window to get a loan deal in LOL. Arsenal have signed Dennis Suarez on loan from Barcelona. This is likely to be our only signing, hoping for another signing but not expecting it. Don’t know much about Suarez but he has potential. Could slot in alongside Torreira ahead of Xhaka.

Suarez played under Emery at Sevilla as a winger so maybe at Arsenal he won’t play as CM but as a winger. Glad Arsenal held firm and gone with the option to buy. If he flops then we don’t buy him, simple! In Emery we trust, hope Suarez fits right in and turns out to be a great player. Looking forward to seeing him play. Hope he gets to play against his former club Man City on Sunday. We needed a natural winger so it’s disappointing that we didn’t get Perisic or Carrasco.

It’s good to see new players join our club but it worries me that Arsenal aren’t signing any defenders. This is where the priority is at the moment. We badly needed enforcements in defence if we really want to finish top 4 this season. With our injury issues, it’s not enough to drag us over the line for 4th place/Europa League. Sokratis is out till the end of February so that’s a major blow. Big chance now for Mavropanos to step up.

It’s stupid to bring Sven Mislintat in and not give him the freedom to do his role. He wanted to be here for over a decade but leaves after 15 months. He played a crucial role in bringing Aubameyang here. He signed exactly on deadline day last year and what a great signing he turned out to be. We would have never signed him if we didn’t have Mislantat. With limited resources, he was key to finding gems.

Looks like the board are saving the money for the summer. They need to back Emery.

Oh, and Quaresma is staying too. Couldn't be more of a disappointing transfer season for us.

    Re: Transfer Talk Thread

Denis Suarez is technical, creative and not that tall. He's going to be a weird central defender for Arsenal

It feels so typically Arsenal to buy a creative type when we need defensive help, both in terms of that being our obvious weakness and the immediate injury crisis. But Arsenal have lacked a creative spark at times, notably when Ozil isn't in the side. Suarez is also quite versatile, which is a bonus. Agree about loan with option to buy is smart.

The "we can only loan" thing has been frustrating. But having read a few articles and listened to a few podcasts on the topic, it does make some sense. The coaching staff changeover cost the club a decent amount of money - buying out the contracts of the staff who didn't stay, signing on the new staff. Even if we didn't have to buy Emery out of a contract, there is still money being invested. The huge new contract for Ozil is a factor. The lack of Champions League football and the unknown of whether we will have it next year bring a risk management factor into play. The Perisic link never made tons of sense, given the cost and his age. And as for adding defenders.... I wants but I also get hesitating. If a player isn't going to be a notable upgrade on what we already have, then what's the point? Take Mustafi - who has his faults but also his positives - and look at we already have invested in him in terms of purchase cost (sunk cost) and wages... if a new defender we bring in isn't an upgrade over that, why buy? The summer is a better market, and we will have a clearer idea of finances going forward and we will also be (hopefully) better positioned to move out certain players. So I get waiting and instead giving a chance to the likes of Maitland-Niles and Mavropanos.

Not to say this more cautious approach is my preference lol. I look rather jealously at clubs that just say "fuck it" and go for what they need. But I do mostly understand why the club is being a bit conservative.

    Austerity Arsenal FTW

I know how it feels Papiss. Celtic need a new CB and RB and are too busy signing prospects for the future or getting short term loan deal fixes.

At least Toljan on loan fixes full back issue.

So fucking frustrating watching your team make profit constantly and not spend much of it

According to SSN, Michy batshuayi could be heading to Crystal Palace after agreeing terms, despite being close to West Ham earlier.

Trying to sign him on a permanent deal apparently.

Would be a great addition upfront for them.

Would be an addition up front. I don't know about "great".

Batshuayi has barely played for Valencia. They were struggling earlier in the season and if I recall correctly, were not scoring much. So the fact that he barely got looked at by them is not a good sign. He did okay with Dortmund last year but look at the side as a whole. Batshuayi is not without talent, but I wouldn't be betting on him making a notable impact for whoever he lands with. He's more likely to be a 2-3 goal guy than a 10 goal guy through the second half of the season.

Man City want both Fernandes and Joao Felix from Portugal. If they get both of those over the line they'll go close to the clean sweep again next season.

If we're losing Pogpa and Mata then we're going to have an attacking midfield void to fill. Felix would be a great fit for United in that respect.

Speaking of us, we're apparently close to signing Daniel James from Swansea for £15m.
Not a marquee signing but still a hefty sum for a 19 year old from the Championship. He's an exciting player though with a TON of pace. I've seen some footage of him playing and he's impressive for his age. He fits the United style of playing so I'm all for this signing. We're in need of more pacy, raw wingers.

James has raw potential, which is going back to the Fergie mould of signing players with that raw potential. James has also been linked to the other top 6 teams outside of Man City & Liverpool so make of that what you will. In this market £15m for him (Probably more like £10m with add ons) will be ok.

On the United front it's been confirmed Ander Herrera is leaving. Guess they didn't want to pay 200K a week in wage for a player of nearly 30...I suppose that means Alexis is being shipped off this summer too then.

Agreed mate, exciting talent and definitely a move in the right direction with our recruitment policy. Hope we wrap up the deal before anyone else comes in.

I'm sad and angry about Herrera leaving. He's about the only player in the squad that actually genuinely cares about playing for United. He was absolutely captain material for me and someone that we could have built the team around. Makes me angry that the club weren't willing to try harder to keep him. I'd take him over any of our other midfielders right now. Big loss for us and a big get for PSG.

Agree on that. Proper pitbull in the mkddle of the park that is needed at times. Our ip and coming midfielders would have learned loads from him. If he does end up going to PSG I hope we make a play for Rabiot...free and free and all that haha.

I wouldn't be opposed to us going for Rabiot. Decent player and young, especially for free. I think he's anoth hsBstca are targeting this summer though. They're going to have an interesting window this summer I think.

Herrera is apparently going to be earning £300,000 a week at PSG. Axing deal for him, he's worked hard for it. Apparently he was willing to stay at United for £200,000 a week but we weren't even willing to give him that. Messed up. That makes me even more disappointed and angry that we've not made more of an effort to keep him.
