Colts And Peyton Manning To Part Ways After 14 Seasons

Now, to see who signs this future Hall-of-Famer.

Peyton Manning's 14-year career as a member of the Indianapolis Colts is coming to an end.
Sources close to the team told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that the announcement will come at a press conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday.

The decision to pass on the $28 million bonus owed Manning and not to pick up the four remaining years on his contract means Manning will become a free agent, and sources say that he intends to continue to play.

The Colts decided not to pick up Manning's option because of concerns they had over his readiness to play in the NFL again.

The four-time league MVP missed the entire 2011 season after having his third neck surgery in 19 months, a fusion of two vertebrae. His doctors have medically cleared him to resume his career.

Manning has broken all of Indianapolis' career records for quarterbacks and had never missed a start before last season. He's taken the Colts to the playoffs 11 times, captured seven AFC South titles in eight years, won two AFC championships, one Super Bowl title and a Super Bowl MVP Award.

It seemed liked it would bound to happen. They owed him too much money to take a risk, and Luck is going to be a financial investment as well.

Someone is gonna give Peyton a big, incentive-laden contract and be very very happy.

I am not a mind-reader but the first team that needs a QB is Redskins. They could pick up Peyton and still draft a QB in a the first round, but I hope that doesn't happen, since I know Peyton will be dangerous going into this season!

The Redskins could also use a good wide receiver to come with Peyton Manning.

From all the talk, the Redskins are more looking to trade up to get RG3 than sign Manning. I see Peyton Manning going to the Dolphins. Maybe possibly the Cardinals. Manning and Fitzgerald would make a great combo. If the Cards signed Manning then they would have to dump Kolb somewhere. Who knows if that plays out, the Cards could trade Kolb to the Seahawks or Dolphins if they don't get the QB they want. Endless possiblities as of right now.

Weird as it sounds to say, Flynn is probably the safer signing. Manning has a huge possibly payoff, obviously, but he's likely to be a short-term solution even if he's back fully. If he can't return to what he was, it could be a mess. If he gets a lot of guaranteed money, a very very expensive mess.

He will go somewhere where he will be happy. I am sure he will want receivers and an O-Line built in and ready to go.

At the end of the day I imagine it's about playing football and not the money. He has more money than God at this point. The Colts have paid him 173 million dollars since he was drafted by them.

Don't be surprised if he joins his brother in New York and the Jets give Sanchez the boot.

Friggin keep him OUT of the AFC east please. (for selfish reasons) although I just read a stat that he is 6-10 against the Pats. Thought it was better than that.

Other great spots for him to land who just seem to need a stud qb. Seattle, Vikings or Dolphins seem like the most logical choices.

I just hope he doesn't end up paralyzed playing a game because he should have stayed away.

    1. Miami
    2. Arizona
    3. Kansas City
    4. Washington
    5. Seattle

Teams (in predicted order of destination) that I think he will go. Jets are another option, but just don't think it will happen. Can't see him going anywhere else.

I'll jump in on that Manning to Miami bandwagon. It's hard to see Manning + Bush + Marshall equal anything but success, even if it's only good success (not great success), it's success which the Dolphins have had a lack of as a whole this past decade. But the price has to be right. Manning could end up a ton of different places. For all we know, we can see him lacing up for St. Louis this August. All I can say is: we shall see..

You can add Wayne to that, because he'll probably end up wherever Manning goes. Jeff Saturday possibly as well.

Manning, Wayne, Marshall, Bess, Fasano, Bush
    Manning, Wayne, Fitzgerald, Heap, Wells
Manning, Wayne, Bowe, Breaston, Moeaki, Charles
Manning, Wayne, Rice, Williams, Baldwin, Carlson, Miller, Lynch

Pretty good options. Didn't include Washington because I honestly don't think it's a good fit, but wouldn't be surprised because it's DAN SNYDER.

Re: Colts And Peyton Manning Part Ways After 14 Seasons

A lot of people suggest Wayne and Saturday would hgo wherever he goes, but you have to keep in mind that 1.) Reggie Wayne will probably be entering his final season, regardless and 2.) The team would need to afford all three of those expensive contracts. They'd have to be prepared to pay out the ass for that trifecta, but a team like Miami has no need for Wayne, and neither does Kansas City or Arizona. I don't know that anyone is willing to pay for a trio of guys who won't hang in for too much longer anyways, no matter how bad they want a turnaround for their franchise, because once all three retire (I give them three years) your left out to dry because these vets have been hogging the field. Essentially, it would be counterproductive to start these three men when the talent is already there, but just waiting to bloom.

Not very surprised by this, an end to an era. And wherever Peyton goes may have a huge impact in April, he maybe the most important player in this year's draft. People were talking about him and Luck, but now it's gonna be Peyton and RG3

I think either Miami or New York Jets could use him.

Miami would be stupid to get him, they're two to three years away from being a great team. They need to stick to rebuilding stockpiling talent, and developing it. They aren't a super bowl team with him. Matt Flynn would be a better, cheaper and longer term choice. With Peyton they'll end up just like the Vikings are now post-Favre.

To me Arizona is the smart place to go. If they can dump Kalb on someone before March 17th, they'll have cap space to have Peyton's buddies come with him. To me Arizona is the only real logical fit. They are aging in some places. Plus then we can make Edgerrin James jokes, and I'm all for that.

Re: Colts And Peyton Manning Part Ways After 14 Seasons

I wonder when it comes time for Peyton to think about where he'll go next, what will he be looking at the most when he looks at teams, the O-Line/Receivers or the Defense? And I wonder since Reggie Wayne, one of his favorite targets in Indy will join him whereve he may go. Here are a few teams that I think Manning may go:

Seattle Seahawks: Tavaris Jackson and Charlie Whitehurst were used this season at quaterback, so Peyton would be a huge boost for them if they can get him. They have a good secondary with Marcus Trufant and Earl Thomas. Then of course there's the great fan base that would welcome Peyton with open arms. The receiving core isn't something to write home about, except for Zach Miller at TE, but Reggie Wayne could sign there as well, which would make them a dangerous offense.

Arizona Cardinals: My only concern with this team is Kevin Kolb. This team gave up a lot to get him off the trade from Philly, and they paid him over 60 million dollars in a five year deal. There's no way they would pay Kolb that much to sit on the bench and hold a clipboard, so they would have to trade him. Beanie Wells secures the running game for Peyton, and the possibility of Reggie Wayne joining with Peyton would be great.....and if all else fails, throw it to Larry! And a big thing is their D, Darnell Dockett is a good player, and you have the defensive and special teams threat of Partick Peterson, he can pick the ball off to give Peyton back the ball or make a good return off the punt to give him good field position.

Miami Dolphins: Would Peyton consider taking his talents to South Beach? Jake Long and Cameron Wake may have something to say to Manning abou that. After Chad Henne went down, Matt Moore came in and had an up-and-down year, so this team would benefit if they got Peyton. The Dolphins have a Reggie of their own that could be used out of the backfield, or as a threat down field for Peyton to throw to, and that man is Reggie Bush. Then there's also Davone Bess, Anthony Fasano, and Brandon Marshall to consider as well; two great receivers that had good seasons, and would probably be more motivated if a great QB like Peyton was in the pocket.

NY Jets: And what about the team that leads the NLF with guaranteed Super Bowls? On paper some would say this was a good team, but they had all kinds of problems last season, and a lot of them came at the expense of their young QB, Mark Sanchez. It comes down to how confident the Jets are with sticking with their USC chick magnet. Santonio Holmes and Dustin Keller would be nice targets for Manning, and if they sign Peyton, they could get Plaxico Burress back as he's currently a free agent. And on defense, you have to mention Revis and Calvin Pace, but is that enough to make #18 go and join his brother Eli in New York, but play in Jersey?

Teams that people have mentioned, but I don't see it happening at all: 49ers - Coach Harbaugh has said he's stickin with Alex Smith, Texans - They say they're happy with Matt Schaub and won't pursue Peyton, Redskins - Don't think it would be wise for Peyton to go there but out of the teams mentioned here, they maybe the highest on this list.

Where will he go? Nobody knows for sure.
