Re: Have ROH/CHIKARA Allied in Some Form?

I think it's just a case of putting over the opposition so that, when the Briscoe probably overcome Jig and Wicked, that ROH looks good by having their tag team champions beat said stalwarts of Chikara. Basically, it's just putting over Chikara so that any newcomers to ROH don't look at the two masked wrestlers and think to themselves "These masked freaks ain't nuthin' compared to Dem Boys," or something like that. Right now ROH probably has much more exposure to many more wrestling fans than they have before thanks to Sinclair Broadcasting, but the last thing they want to do is even suggest disenfranchising Chikara fans by not treating Chikara like a fairly big deal.

I, personally, would LOVE to see some cross-promotion between the two companies...maybe even a Chikara vs ROH cibernetico. Not only does it give a bit of variety to ROH that they quite frankly lack, but it boosts Chikara's profile as not just any other indy.

...Or it could be that Quack wants them to promote the hell out of Chikara because he's secretly a prick, but that's neither here nor there.

Re: Have ROH/CHIKARA Allied in Some Form?

Do you remember how much ROH put over CHIKARA when the CHIKARA guys first started to come in around 2007?

I wouldn't be surprised if they're unofficially trying to help each other out. In the last few years, CHIKARA has really broke out as a major player in the indies. Meanwhile, ROH have separated themselves from the rest of the indy world. You no longer have the ROH/FIP relationship. ROH and Gabe's promotions were at odds. The NOAH and Dragon Gate guys have stopped coming in. ROH could really benefit from having another relationship with a fellow company again. Let's face it, there's a reason why the ROH/CZW feud is looked back on so fondly. It wouldn't have worked as well if the CZW guys were just random ROH wrestlers now in a faction.

Could also be a ploy to sell more tickets and sheet.

    "Hey, you like ROH?"

    "No, I like CHIKARA."

"Oh, we've got that too! Come on down or we'll kill your parents."

    "Alright."

Poppycock. Now that's a word you couldn't say if Quack was anywhere near you, or you're banned from CHIKARA for life.

Re: Have ROH/CHIKARA Allied in Some Form?

I wonder why this thread hasn't been there when Claudio Castagnoli led the "Bruderschaft des Kreuzes" to greatness while being one half of the ROH Tag Team Champions. As I said in another thread, none of these Indy promotions "own" a talent year-round exclusively because they could never afford it. Not even TNA pays their talents year-round, but they pay for a number of dates. There might be exclusivity for PPVs, but surely not for the whole year. That being said, ROH talent can of course join CHIKARA for a few non-PPV shots and vice versa.

Purely talentwise, I don't see it making much sense for ROH at all. The undercard still has plenty of matchups that haven't been seen, and no CHIKARA talent except for Quack has enough value and credibility to hang with the ROH uppercard. And I don't really expect Quack to work for anything else but his own promotion anymore.

Because Claudio was using a slightly different character and was in ROH for as long as anybody else bar a few, AND it wasn't a deal with Chikara to use him?

Not to mention that at the time, Claudio was a trainer at Chikara's Wrestle Factory.

    - Both Ring of Honor and CHIKARA officials will be meeting this Friday afternoon in Philadelphia regarding April 28th in Chicago Ridge, IL. Expect an official detailed announcement soon.
That's the date where they both have shows booked in Chicago and fans were like "How could ROH be such dicks?!" and obviously it turned out that CHIKARA were doing a matinee. Interesting...

Chikara and ROH officials are in closed door talks about 4/28 in Chicago Ridge right now
At the least, I think we can expect a crossover show of sorts. Bring me Steen vs Kingston!

Re: Have ROH/CHIKARA Allied in Some Form?

So now we know that we're onto something. So where's this all heading? A proper feud like with CZW? The occasional match or confrontation whenever they're in the same city or Philly? A big elimination tag?

On ROHWorld, someone asked what matches people would like to see and I said:

    Steen vs Kingston
    Steen vs Quackenbush
    Edwards vs Quackenbush
    Edwards vs Kingston
    The Briscoes vs The Colony
    The Bravados vs 3.0
    Future Shock vs Incoherence

    Generico vs Ophidian
    Generico vs Johnny Gargano

This could be a good thing for both promotions. I try to keep up with ROH (it's been so dull lately that I hardly watch) and I almost never get to watch Chikara. The matches Marketh posted are pretty good, but why no Chucky T?

Because making the crowd question why they watch wrestling is a bad idea for putting another promotion over.

It could be his relationship with DGUSA. Out of everyone in CHIKARA, he and Gargano are used the most by Gabe.

Someone on twitter suggest Mike Bennett vs. Icarus happening at some point. This is probably the only time I'd consider any match involving Bennett or Icarus a dream match.

    Kingston/Steen would be incredibly awesome.

IndyPuro ROH & CHIKARA Present: "Synergy" - Cards & Results

I hope CHIKARA fans don't object to a joint thread, but when you read the article, I think you'll agree it's a major event that deserves this.

    ROH-CHIKARA SYNERGY

Baltimore, MD (January 23, 2012) - In a first time ever collaboration, Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment Inc. and CHIKARA fuse together to make April 28th, 2012 a Professional Wrestling Holiday in the great wrestling city of Chicago! Although both wrestling leagues are different in presentation, they have one thing 100% in common….a desire to give the fans of the Chicagoland area a day of Professional Wrestling that only dreams are made of.

The celebration begins in the afternoon with CHIKARA presenting "Hot Off the Griddle" and wraps up in the evening when Ring of Honor presents “Unity”. This historic day of wrestling festivities all emanates from the Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, IL.

Ring of Honor and CHIKARA officials sealed the deal on this special event last Friday afternoon in Philadelphia, PA. Both offices have come to an agreement that they will go above and beyond to make sure that April 28th, 2012 is a day that will go down in professional wrestling history.

Following that meeting, CHIKARA officials remained in attendance last Friday evening for the “Homecoming 2012” event that took place at the Philadelphia National Guard Armory as invited guests of ROH officials. CHIKARA wrestlers were also invited backstage before the event to introduce themselves to fellow ROH wrestlers in relation to the business agreement made for Chicago on April 28th.

Later on in the evening, CHIKARA representatives Jigsaw and Hallowicked entered the Proving Ground against ROH World Tag Team Champions, Mark and Jay Briscoe in an attempt to earn a future ROH Tag Title match. During this bout Jigsaw was pummeled by the Briscoes, driven through a ringside table, yet somehow managed to roll into the ring at the count of 19, albeit in very rough shape.

At this point members of the CHIKARA roster came out to ringside individually in support of their fellow comrades who were in dire straits. Mike Quackenbush, Frightmare, Dasher Hatfield, The Colony, Saturyne, and Ultra Mantis Black all made unexpected appearances leading to the CHIKARA team upsetting the Briscoes and earning that future ROH Tag Team title shot.

The unorthodox and bizarre personalities of CHIKARA definitely made their presence felt at “Homecoming 2012” in an unscheduled series of events and it is without question that a few ROH wrestlers, as well as members of the staff, were upset at the fact that the CHIKARA wrestlers went to ringside without permission.

It will be interesting to see what happens on the road to ROH-CHIKARA “Synergy” on April 28th, 2012. We can officially confirm that the first contest to be announced at ROH “Unity” is a ROH World Tag Team Championship match with The Briscoe Brothers (if they are still champions) defending against Hallowicked and Jigsaw.

Keep an eye on ROHWrestling.com, as well as CHIKARAPro.com, for more information on both live events including wrestler line-ups, scheduled matches, and any news as this huge day of wrestling gets closer.

Tickets for Ring of Honor’s “Unity” event go on sale Wednesday January 25th @ 10AM for Ringside Members, and to the general public on Friday 1/27 @ 10AM at www.ROHWrestling.com!
