Main event could be killer, both dudes are great fighters but I think Edgar has proven to be the real deal. Akiyama vs Sheilds should be good but man, **** Kongo. Hope he gets knocked the **** out after his last fight.

Yoshihiro Akiyama vs. Jake Shields will almost certainly steal the show here. Especially since The Japanese crown will be twice as amped for one of their fellow countrymen and one of their biggest (living) pop culture icons (currently) so with the over the top electricity added in with the fact that these two guys are two of the most versatile, vigourous fighters in the UFC, I have to imagine it'll be awesome. Of course Edgar and Henderson will bring awesome energy and go balls to the wall. And then there's Bader against Rampage. Bader just knocked a guy out by barely punching him, and Rampage barely ounched his last opponent period... Bader's obviously riding his confidence into this fight and I wouldn't be surprised to see him win here. And in a way, I hope he does, cause he's one of my favorites, and then that'd also set up a Bader vs. Hendo fight which would be GREAT.

So looking forward to this. Akiyama and Shields are two of my fave fighters so I am really pumped for that. Also love the idea of Rampage/Bader as both men have big knockout power and well Edgar and Henderson is going to be sick. Pettis and Lauzon will also be good. But for me personally the fight what has me most intrigued has to be Hunt vs Kongo as I am expecting a big heavyweight brawl from both men. should be awesome.

So this is happening tonight and the whole card looks great. I think Edgar's time as champ is over with and its Bendo's time. But it weill be a tough fight and I see it going to decesion.

S'funny the paths Ben Henderson and Tony Pettis have been on since that last ever bout in WEC - by folks calcs after that ****ed up cage kick Tony would be cutting about draped in gold by now. But ever since Ben beat the absolute b'hey zeus out of Jim Miller, I have seen it as a given he'd get the belt soon enough...made all the more impressive by the fact its Frankie hes got to go through...hes that good. If Frank does somehow manage to beat him, the belt is his for the longterm. Outside of this, the Pettis Lauzon fight is the one Im most excited about...Lauzon aint going to be taking him down, so its on for potential out of this world stand up. Gonna be goood.

People tend to forget how close the fight between Henderson and Pettis really was. It was 48-47 on two of the judges cards. And the final round was close too. That's one of the things that makes the cage kick so amazing - it not only almost ended the fight but it very likely won him the round and the fight.

Wow did Frankie gets screwed or what? That scoring was wacked to say the least. Frankie definitely won round 3 and round 5, there should be no questions about that. The other three rounds were all close, but Frankie got Round 1 as well. Its crazy that one judge gave Bendo 4 rounds in that fight.

I also thought Edgar won the fight, even though his face looked like hell and Bendo looked like he didn't take any damage. I wonder if we will see Edgar get a rematch or if we will possibly see Bendo-Pettis II.

I wonder where Rampage goes from here as well. He didn't look motivated or in the greatest shape for this fight.

Edgar did not win that fight. Even the stats show Bendo winning the fight. 48-37 to Bendo for me

I guess you dont come throwdowns or takedowns. In every round it seems Frankie took Bendo down. Anyway, it seems most pros agree that Frankie got robbed...

Re: UFC 144 : Edgar vs Henderson (Japan) - February 25th Discussion

I scored it 48-47 for Henderson with the fourth round almost going to Edgar. fantastic fight.Bader was impressive. He's always had major potential and I don't think an in shape Rampage would've done any better. Just a great game planby Ryan and I believe Jackson needs to reassess his career goals since he seems to really not like fighting anymore.Hunt is a legend. Plain and simple.I gave the fight to Akiyama but Sheilds winning doesnt surprise me in the slightest. Both guys looked fantastic.Hioki schooled Bartimus in the first and third rounds. Dude is a friggin star. Very much excited for him and Jose to square off for the belt.Boetsch's performance was a thing of beauty. Lost the first two so tried hard to finish it in the third. He deserves a decent step up in competition now. Perhaps Weidman?Pettis never ceases to amaze me. Destroyed one of my personal favourite fighters in Joe-Lau and as a result is probably next in line for a title shot.Gomi's unorthodox striking almost lost him the fight in the first but he proved hes still got it when he demolished Mits in the second.Vaughan Lee is the real ****in deal, because he tapped out a Kid Yamamoto who in my opinion was looking great.Fukuda has always looked good in the Octagon, shame Cantwell couldn't catch a break despite starting the fight of very well. And Mizugaki was robbed! All up, awesome card. Better than 139, 140 but not quite as good as 142

Re: UFC 144 : Edgar vs Henderson (Japan) - February 25th Discussion

Frankie wasn't robbed, it was just an incredibly close fight that could have legit gone either way. People would be saying the same for Hendo if it went the other way. Edgar got more takedowns but Hendo did more actual damage. But either way it was a ****ing great fight and I hope there's a rematch before they hotshot Pettis to it.

Whole show was ****ing great, outside the Rampage fight which I expected to suck anyway. Dude just cannot go any more and should hang it up. Atleast he dumped Bader on his head, though.

Loved Mark Hunt knocking Kongo the **** out and then totally not giving a crap in the post-fight interview. Rogan: "That was an incredible knock-out, amazing technique! How do you feel?!", Hunt: "Hmmm yeah it was alright"

Thought Akiyama vs Sheilds was much closer than it was made out to be. Sheilds dominated the third, but I think I gave the first to rounds to Sexyama by a slight edge. Guy was impossible to takedown by a takedown specialist.

Went absolutely nuts for the Boetsch comeback. Mother of God that was insane. He got dominated for 2 rounds then just went ALL IN and knocked Okami the **** out with those sick uppercuts. Crazy.

Pettis KO was sick and it was cool to see atleast one Japanese guy win and look good on the show.

Best UFC show in a while.

Re: UFC 144 : Edgar vs Henderson (Japan) - February 25th Discussion

I wouldn't put that much stock in what pros have to say. A whole bunch said they would have given the Condit-Diaz fight to Diaz because he was moving forward the whole time, when that is not a scoring criteria.

I would honestly have to rewatch the fight to score it properly but I don't think Edgar got robbed either. Fairly close fight. I certainly don't see how it was "clearly" Edgar. He landed 5 takedowns - and how long was he able to keep Henderson down at any point? Henderson landed more strikes (according to FightMetric) and was clearly more damaging with them. He was also twice close to ending the fight. Cage control and aggression could both go toward Henderson for much of the fight, though those could go either way.

    Great event overall.

Haven't watched UFC in quite some time but Steve was hyping the Boetsch comeback in the SB yesterday so decided to give it a viewing and yeah that was pretty sick. Okami seemed to just think he had him beat, and Boetsch just came out gung-ho in the final round knowing he had to beat him here and now. Some of those uppercuts to end it where brutal!

Watching that has wet my appetite for UFC a bit so might actually give the main event and the Akiyama v Shields match a watch later.

Re: UFC 144 : Edgar vs Henderson (Japan) - February 25th Discussion

I definitely wouldn't say Edgar got robbed, even though I thought he won, the fact that Henderson won is not surprising to me at all, and I am alright with that decision.

Also, I got a kick out of Rogan completely losing it when Boetsch came back to win, calling it the best comeback ever. It was a great comeback but Kongo's comeback last year against Barry was definitely more impressive.

Wasn't a robbery but I don't care what fight metric says, Frankie had more strikes than Henderson. If you go by the stats I say Frankie wins but if you go by damage, cage control, and who was pushing the pace...all Bendo.

I was surprised when I saw the stats too, because I thought Edgar landed more. I'd have to watch the fight again - maybe some of what he thew really didn't land.

The entire fight they were showing the stats and Frankie had more than double every time they showed it as I remember.
