Interesting trade between the Royals and Giants. I didn't realize Cabrera had as good a year as he did. Sanchez has always struck me as a guy that will never quite put all the pieces together, and I don't think he'll get any better than what he is right now.
I don't think the Mets are going to re-sign Jose Reyes this off season. The Mets have said they won't go beyond a 4 year deal, and he'll almost certainly get at least one contract offering 5 years. From what I've read, it looks like the most likely teams that Reyes could go to are the Brewers, Marlins, and Tigers.
New Miami Marlins uni's
Good move on the behalf of the Giants. Cabrera was under-the-radar for the Royals in 2010, and could probably give them the spark that Beltran failed to do during the last half of the season.
According to Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com, the Phillies have signed Jonathan Papelbon to a deal to become the new closer of the Philadelphia Phillies. The deal is done, pending a physical. Salisbury says it’s likely he’ll get a four-year deal. This ends the Ryan Madson era in Philadelphia, the place he has been since 2004.
Sounds like the Marlins have made "substantial offers" to both Jose Reyes and Albert Pujols, according to Ken Rosenthal. I still don't see Pujols leaving St. Louis, but Reyes to Miami certainly seems possible. I'd honestly put Reyes' chances of returning to the Mets at 25% at best now. I really don't see him staying in New York.
Don't you want someone with a little managerial experience? The St. Louis Cardinals are replacing a manager who's third on the career victory list with a man who'll be writing his first lineup card on Opening Day.Mike Matheny, a former catcher with the Cardinals who had been a minor league instructor, will be introduced as Tony La Russa's successor at a news conference Monday.
They have to get experience managing somehow. Playing catcher for LaRussa for years probably helped him more than being a minor league manager anyway.
Surprised they didn't go with Jose Oquendo.
Yes, have fun overpaying the decaying point of his career.
Some news for Monday 11-14-2011
Matt Kemp on the verge of signing a 8 year/ 160 million contract with Dodgers
Jeremy Hellickson wins the ROY in the AL and Craig Kimbrel wins it in the NL
Couldn't agree more and no real other options with Hellickson and Kimbrel winning their respected ROTYs.
Yeah, the Dodgers couldn't afford to offer less, because some other team would probably have offered him that amount of money if that's what his agent was looking for.
One year doesn't equal that money.Sad to see if the team goes nowhere again, the possible new Owner might be shaking his head, as people show to the games, but quite as hell. The Dogders are in the same division as Arizona and the Giants right? Both teams have bettter in and out the Dodgers, work on improving the team.
Give Justin Verlander & Clayton Kershaw their Cy Young Awards already, MLB >.>
