Night of Champions General Metal Chit Chat.

A few of us were in the shoutbox and got onto this topic and it was an awesome chat. We got onto Metallica albums so here's my order...

    Ride > Justice > Master > Kill > Magnetic > Load > Garage Inc > St Anger > ReLoad.

    Now, you guys?

Not including Garage Inc because it's a covers album, but for the record it's really good, as is S&M, the best live album of all time.
Your list is very similar to mine:-

    Puppets > Lightning > Load > Justice > Magnetic > Black > Kill > Reload > Anger

    Well... Maybe just the end.

It's been a while since I had a Metallica session, so that may have changed, but last time I checked that was the order.

Re: 80's Metal General Chit Chat.

    Puppets>Lightning>Kill>Justice>Black>Magnetic>Load>Reload>St. Anger

and didn't include Garage/S&M/Live but they are all good.

Now, if this is really 80's Metal General Chit Chat (as the title suggests), why not talk about some other awesome metal bands from the 80's that nobody seems to remember, like Overkill, Sodom or Destruction. All awesome, in fact, Overkill's "Horrorscope" is easily up there with the best metal albums of all time, as is Sodom's "Agent Orange".

    WHO'S WITH ME?

Not really too familiar with those bands Fuji, certainly not enough to discuss them.
I don't think Reign in Blood is overrated if you look at it as simple thrash metal that is designed to be a sonic assault that punches you in the face for its duration. From my review of the album from another site...

Disregard the previous poster as he is obviously not a true metal fan. Trust me, this is one of THE greatest metal albums of all time and should not be missed.

I may be in the minority but I think they came close to the epicness of Reign with Christ Illusion.

Christ Illusion was pretty good all the way through, but the peak of Slayer's music was South of Heaven and then Seasons in the Abyss. Those are definitely their two most accomplished albums, though to be quite honest, my favourite Slayer album is Live: Decade of Aggression.

And speaking of South of Heaven and Seasons....here's some quick reviews of those from the same site...

While not as brutally fast as their previous effort, "Reign in Blood", South of Heaven instead enjoys a stronger songwriting structure and higher production values. Though Slayer would not reach their peak with Rubin until the following album, "Seasons in the Abyss", South of Heaven is a great snapshot of a band that is clearly in transition and about to reach the pinnacle of their career. Standout tracks are Silent Scream, Ghosts of War, Mandatory Suicide and the title track.
    and for Seasons....

The end result is nothing short of incredible as the production and songwriting come together for the first time in perfect "unholy" unison. Slayer reached a peak here that they will never surpass and the "final swing" results in one of the landmark metal albums of all time. Standout tracks are too numerous to mention as the entire record oozes greatness from beginning to end. It'll kick your ass from pillar to post but you'll love the ride.

I love SoH, Seasons and Hell Awaits. Dead Skin Mask is probably my favorite tune along either War Ensemble or Mandatory Suicide.

I really like Hell Awaits as well, oh and Show No Mercy just because of the way Araya screams "TORMENTAAAAAAAAAAR!!!!"

There's a couple of more mediocre tunes on SoH, but along with the two that you mentioned, Silent Scream and Ghosts of War are off the hook.

Have you guys checked out World Painted Blood? It's not their best album (obviously) but the title track, Hate Worldwide and Psychopathy Red are pretty awesome. For some reason I also really dig Playing With Dolls as well.
