    The Ashes 2019 Discussion Thread

So the day is upon us, it's the first test of the 2019 Ashes. Neither team is looking dominant, both teams have issues with their batting, both teams strength is in their bowling.

The Aussies won 4-0 last time out, and you just know somewhere the scurge of England attacks in yesteryears Glen McGrath is predicting a 5-0 Aussie win as he always does, but England haven't lost a home Ashes series since 2001, so where is the advantage?

We could well know by the end of August who is winning the Ashes, but i'm hoping for a 2005 series where it went all the way and nobody knew what was going to happen.

    1st Test 1st - 5th August - Edgbaston
    2nd Test 14th - 18th August - Lords
    3rd Test 22nd - 26th August - Headingly
    4th Test 4th - 8th September - Old Trafford
    5th Test 12th - 16th September - The Oval

    Let's go. #Ashes2019

Great fucking start lads. This Aussie side just do not have the patience on the crease like they used to with Ponting, Hayden etc. If we get Steve Smith out for a reasonable score then they'll crumble.

Any update on Jimmy Anderson guys? I'm stuck to crappy text commentary in work haha.

Plus let's get 'em out for under 200 it'll be an amazing first day.

The results of his scan have so far not been released. Apparently he may play some part in the second innings so it can't be that bad if he does....can it?

Slight advantage to England heading into day 3. Cracking innings from Burns, let's hope we can build a lead of circa 100 to really put the pressure on.

This. We need about 100 lead. Batting last on this wicket is going to be challenging.

Lead of 87 now, great partnership from Woakes and Broad that. Healthy lead now.

Have to be favourites with the Aussies 3 down and still trailing. We don't even need to get Smith out if the others aroun him continue to fail. It's looking good for a 1-0 lead.

Well that preditction is coming to bite me on the arse isn't it? I'd be very surprised if the Aussies don't look to go 4/5 an over for 10 overs after tea which should see a lead of 300 then declaring. Give themselves 15 overs tonight to try and get a couple of wickets, whilst it's still a getable target for England so it should be an interesting last session of day 4.

1-0 after 2 tests. 3rd test is at Headingly which always provides for the quick bowlers. Steve Smith hasn't been passed fit for this test so that's a huge blow for the Aussies, we need to win this one!

Seems impossible for England to have two consecutive good days in this series. All the good work of yesterday undone in 1 hour.

That shot from Stokes was horrific too. Boycott has rightly pointed out the only person the Aussies have got out so far is Root. Others have got themselves out. We need to match the Aussies score as were due glorious sunshine for the rest of the game so overhead conditions won't help moving forward.

Buttler may as well go into one day mode here no point batting time with every bugger getting themselves out.

What an incredinly bad first innings. Terrible shots everywhere and just no grasp of the match situation. This could be over tomorrow.

Re: The Ashes 2019 Discussion Thread

270 behind, still 6 wickets in hand, and still 3 days of play to go, crazyness. Changes will be needed for the 4th test however who will make the call on those changes? Bayliss is off post Ashes, and we need to start again with this test team.

Jason Roy...for all his ODI experience isn't going to make a test opener, so he should be dropped. We're playing with two wicketkeepers...get rid of one of the buggers. Sure Jos is very explosive but surely it would be better to save that for the shorter form and let Bairstow be the guy...or play Bairstow as a batsman and bring in a seasoned keeper, either or, not really fussy there.

We also need to look at who is next for Anderson and Broad. Archer and Woakes won't be going far for a few years yet, so bring in the next guys ready, even if it's just having them around the squad. Let Curran play for one of them, and continue with Leach.

Other query is...is it time for Root to drop the captaincy? Lots of questions, but still time to turn it all around yet.

As a type we get a wicket woohoo.
